Job description
Position Overview
The role of Field Operator Transmission involves ensuring the safe and dependable operation, inspection, and monitoring of transmission systems and related equipment within the NEOM Green Hydrogen Project in Saudi Arabia. This includes adhering to established procedures, health and safety policies, and regional grid standards to maintain continuous power transmission.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and inspect transmission infrastructure such as substations, transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, isolators, protective systems, and electrical assets.
- Conduct regular field inspections to detect anomalies, report faults, alarms, overheating, leaks, and operational issues.
- Carry out authorized switching, isolation, and restoration activities following approved permits and procedures.
- Assist in preventive and corrective maintenance by isolating equipment, performing tests, inspections, and ensuring safe service restoration.
- Comply strictly with health, safety, and environmental protocols, electrical safety guidelines, Permit to Work requirements, and transmission standards.
- Respond swiftly to equipment malfunctions, system trips, and emergencies, contributing to fault diagnosis and restoration efforts.
- Maintain detailed operational logs, inspection and switching records, equipment status reports, and incident documentation.
- Collaborate with Control Room Operators, Maintenance teams, Engineering, Grid Control, and contractors to ensure efficient and safe operations.
- Ensure transmission equipment readiness by verifying operational status and escalating any reliability-impacting defects.
- Contribute to improving operational practices, reliability programs, and best practice implementations.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, Power Systems, or related fields.
- Certification in electrical safety and switching authorization is preferred.
- Familiarity with Saudi electricity transmission regulations and grid requirements is advantageous.
- Between 3 and 7 years' experience in electrical transmission, substations, power generation, renewable energy, or utility sectors.
- Experience with High Voltage (HV) and Extra High Voltage (EHV) transmission systems and substations is desirable.
- Previous work in shift-based environments and experience with high-voltage switching is a plus.
Technical Expertise
- In-depth knowledge of HV/EHV electrical systems and substation components including transformers, circuit breakers, disconnectors, busbars, current transformers (CTs), potential transformers/voltage transformers (PTs/VTs), protection systems, and earthing.
- Understanding of electrical protection, control mechanisms, and SCADA systems.
- Ability to interpret single-line diagrams, electrical schematics, and equipment layouts.
- Competence in applying Permit to Work, Lockout/Tagout, switching, and electrical isolation procedures.
- Basic proficiency in troubleshooting and fault detection.
- Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and operational reporting tools.
