Job description
Role Overview
We are seeking a meticulous and collaborative Estimator to join our team in Edmonton, Alberta. This role demands strong prioritization abilities to accurately prepare project estimates by thoroughly analyzing contract specifications and plans. Your goal will be to determine cost-effective quantities and methods for construction that align with budget, schedule, and project objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze proposal documents including specifications, drawings, and attend pre-bid meetings to define scope and estimate components.
- Utilize historical data such as purchase orders, subcontracts, and productivity reports to inform unit and labor hour calculations.
- Provide technical insight related to project and contractual risks to the lead estimator, ensuring final bids meet pricing and scheduling targets.
- Conduct comprehensive takeoffs by calculating material quantities from engineering drawings to form discipline estimates.
- Stay updated on client addenda and communicate estimate adjustments to the team accordingly.
- Contribute to design reviews by recommending cost-effective, high-quality, and feasible solutions considering material availability.
- Collaborate with the estimating team to facilitate project hand-off meetings between the pursuit and project management teams.
- Research and suggest potential vendors and subcontractors to meet project and cost objectives.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely related discipline is required.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in construction, with specialization in estimating or cost control being preferred.
- Expertise with alternative construction delivery methods is essential.
- Advanced proficiency in using HCSS HeavyBid estimating software.
- Strong technical writing skills demonstrated through past work.
- Capability to lead pursuit and estimating initiatives for large or complex projects.
