Estimator - Structural Steel

About the Role

Join a well-established structural steel company in Cwmbran, South Wales, involved in delivering some of the UK's notable and technically demanding projects including airport, rail infrastructure, specialist architectural structures, and international developments. As an Estimator, your work will be fundamental to the project lifecycle by ensuring accurate and competitive tender submissions that shape what projects get secured and how they are executed.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze technical drawings, specifications, and tender documents to produce precise estimates.
• Develop Bills of Quantities, pricing models, and tender proposals that align with project requirements.
• Gather and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors to inform pricing decisions.
• Participate in tender strategy formulation, supporting commercial decision-making.
• Identify potential project risks and opportunities to optimize tender outcomes.
• Contribute to value engineering activities to enhance project viability and competitiveness.
• Collaborate effectively with technical, commercial, and operational teams to ensure accurate and commercially sound tenders.
• Continuously enhance familiarity with company estimating systems and processes.

Candidate Profile

• Prior experience in an estimating role, preferably within structural steel, steelwork, or the construction sector.
• Strong proficiency in interpreting technical drawings with excellent numerical and analytical capabilities.
• Meticulous attention to detail and comprehensive understanding of construction techniques, materials, and cost factors.
• Effective communication skills enabling collaboration between technical and commercial teams.
• A proactive, commercially aware mindset with the ability to manage multiple tenders and meet strict deadlines.
