About the Role

We are seeking an Estimator to join a leading civil engineering firm based in Castlebar, County Mayo. This position is integral to the tendering team focused on major public realm and water & wastewater infrastructure projects across Ireland. In partnership with the Bid Manager, the Estimator will develop precise, competitive, and commercially sound estimates for a variety of civil engineering and utilities projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate closely with the Bid Manager to ensure tenders are prepared efficiently and on time.
• Create detailed and accurate cost estimates for civil engineering and utilities projects, including water and wastewater infrastructure.
• Analyze drawings, specifications, bills of quantities, and project requirements thoroughly.
• Sourcing, evaluating, and appraising competitive bids from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Maintain and update cost databases during the tendering process.
• Engage in risk evaluation, value engineering, and tender review sessions.
• Identify and assess commercial and delivery risks associated with tender opportunities.
• Support pre-contract transitions and provide cost-related information to project delivery teams.
• Keep abreast of market trends including material and subcontractor pricing in the civil engineering sector.
• Work collaboratively with project managers, engineers, procurement, and commercial groups.
• Assist in refining tendering processes and departmental initiatives led by the Bid Manager.
• Contribute expertise to formulate successful tender strategies and support organizational growth.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Demonstrated experience as an Estimator in civil engineering or infrastructure sectors.
• Comprehensive understanding of civil engineering project delivery and tender procedures.
• Experience in estimating projects related to civil infrastructure, utilities, water, or wastewater is highly preferred.
• Strong skills in interpreting technical drawings, project specifications, and requirements.
• Proven ability to engage subcontractors and suppliers to gather and evaluate offers competitively.
• High commercial awareness with excellent cost management capabilities.
• Capacity to thrive in a team-oriented environment under tight deadlines.
• Proactive, solution-oriented work ethic.
• A degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related field is beneficial.
