Responsibilities include pricing and quantifying work, analyzing drawings and tender specifications, collaborating with supply chain partners, and managing estimating records and precedent data to support well-informed commercial decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive cost estimates, bills of quantities, and measurement take-offs based on drawings, specifications, and tender documentation per tender requirements.
- Examine tender documents and site details to recognize risks, exclusions, provisional sums, and potential opportunities, integrating these aspects into the estimates and assumptions.
- Collect, assess, and compare quotations from subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring alignment with scope and program conditions while documenting responses for commercial evaluation.
- Maintain and update cost databases, standard estimate templates, and precedent records to enhance consistency and efficiency in estimating methodologies.
- Work closely with design, commercial, and site teams to resolve technical inquiries, verify assumptions, and ensure coherence among program, methodology, and cost elements.
- Prepare detailed pricing breakdowns, cost summaries, and tender submission materials in both electronic and physical formats for senior management and client review.
- Contribute to risk management by developing contingency allowances, conducting sensitivity analyses, and identifying opportunities for cost reduction.
- Ensure diligent record-keeping within the Document Management System (DMS) and estimating archives, maintaining clear audit trails for estimating decisions.
- Participate in bid meetings, document meeting minutes, track action points, and provide regular updates on pricing progress to stakeholders.
- Comply strictly with company policies related to health and safety, quality standards, and data security throughout all estimating activities.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Proven background in estimating within the construction industry, ideally with a main contractor or consultancy, and familiarity with commercial tender processes.
- Strong numerical aptitude with keen attention to detail, capable of performing measurement take-offs and compiling bills of quantities accurately.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook; experience with estimating software, cost databases, and Document Management Systems is advantageous.
- Good knowledge of construction techniques, equipment, materials, and subcontractor procurement procedures.
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities to effectively prioritize tasks and meet stringent tender deadlines.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of interacting professionally with colleagues, clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- A self-driven, proactive, and solution-oriented approach, with the ability to operate independently and collaboratively within a team setting.
Rewards & Benefits
- Offering a competitive and appealing compensation package, including pension scheme participation, support for professional memberships, and additional company perks.
- Access to professional development opportunities, training programs, and pathways for long-term career advancement within the organisation.
