- Respond promptly to alarm activations, security issues, and emergencies.
- Conduct routine inspections and perform maintenance on buildings, fixtures, equipment, and plant.
- Carry out general repairs across plumbing, carpentry, joinery, painting, decorating, electrical tasks, and grounds maintenance.
- Maintain safety and accessibility of college grounds and access routes, including snow clearance and gritting as needed.
- Support waste disposal, recycling efforts, cleaning, and uphold environmental standards on site.
- Assist with moving furniture, equipment, and other porterage duties.
- Drive college vehicles such as vans and minibuses when required.
- Coordinate with colleagues, contractors, emergency services, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality estate services.
- Provide support during college events and open evenings as needed.
Candidate Profile
- Practical and proactive with experience in maintenance and facilities work, ideally in a similar estates or caretaking environment.
- Skilled in at least one relevant trade with a willingness to undertake further training; Level 2 qualification in construction or maintenance is preferred.
- Reliable at identifying and solving maintenance problems promptly.
- Ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a dynamic work environment.
- Capable of working both autonomously and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication skills paired with a customer-focused and professional manner.
- Committed to health and safety practices to maintain secure environments.
- Flexible regarding working hours including occasional evenings.
- Competent with IT, specifically Microsoft Office applications.
- Physically able to work at heights and in confined spaces when necessary.
- Holder of a full clean driving license.
Benefits and Additional Information
- Salary: £25,043 per annum.
- Work Hours: 37 hours per week on a rota basis.
- Generous leave entitlement including 30 days annual leave, bank holidays, and Christmas shutdown (pro-rata for part-time).
- Participation in the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) with life assurance and death-in-service benefits.
- Access to health and wellbeing facilities including gym, free parking, and employee assistance program.
- Opportunities for ongoing professional development and training, including support for higher education and qualifications.
- Employee benefit program including discounts via Vivup and eligibility for Blue Light Card.
Safeguarding and Compliance
The role requires a thorough vetting process including an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references due to working with children and vulnerable groups. It is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, requiring certain convictions to be declared. Applicants barred from working with children must not apply.
