Epilepsy Neurologist

Position Overview

The Department of Internal Medicine at Max Rady College of Medicine, University of Manitoba, in partnership with Shared Health Manitoba, is seeking a full-time Epilepsy Neurologist. This role requires sub-specialty training in Epilepsy and certification in EEG. The position includes an academic appointment within the University's Section of Neurology, with flexible start dates across Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor ranks based on the candidate's prior academic experience.

Academic and Clinical Environment

The successful candidate will join one of 18 sections in the Department of Internal Medicine, which enjoys strong resources across two academic health centres and a community hospital. The Section of Neurology features a well-established residency program and a distinguished research group known internationally. The Adult Epilepsy Program in Winnipeg has a recently expanded Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) with 4 beds and capabilities for intracranial SEEG, serving a population exceeding 1.5 million.

The multidisciplinary team includes adult and pediatric epileptologists, a neurosurgeon dual fellowship trained in epilepsy and functional surgery, neuropsychologists, nurse clinicians, and EEG technologists. The epilepsy surgery program is equipped with modern ORs, neurosurgical robotics (ROSA), resective surgery infrastructure, and electrophysiology monitoring facilities. The program offers vagal nerve stimulation and is exploring deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery. Call duties include urgent EEG and EMU coverage, with no expectation for general neurology calls unless desired by the candidate.

Qualifications and Eligibility

• Candidates must hold Neurology specialty qualifications in their current practice country with eligibility for registration by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba.
• Preferred certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Neurology.
• Completion of at least one year of fellowship training in Epilepsy and EEG, including experience in Stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG) and electrocorticography.
• Required EEG certification such as CSCN or equivalent.
• Applicants eligible for the Practice Ready Assessment Manitoba - Specialty Practice Program (PRA MB-SP) will be considered.
• International Medical Graduates must complete the PRA-SP pre-screening intake process.
