About The Role

We are seeking confident and professional individuals to join our team as Environmental Enforcement Officers. This frontline position involves being on foot patrol daily to identify environmental violations and issue Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) to offenders in the community.

Waste Investigations Support & Enforcement (WISE) collaborates with local authorities throughout the UK to combat environmental crimes like littering, fly-tipping, dog fouling, and breaches of duty of care. Leveraging sector expertise, trained personnel, and advanced technology, we ensure visible, fair, and effective enforcement that contributes to maintaining clean and safe boroughs.

A Day in the Life

  • Begin shifts by patrolling on foot through busy town centres, areas with high pedestrian activity, and residential neighborhoods
  • Observe public behaviours and identify offences such as littering, dog fouling, and fly-tipping
  • Approach offenders confidently and professionally to explain the violation and issue Fixed Penalty Notices
  • Educate the public on their responsibilities towards the environment
  • Accurately document evidence, statements, and reports using designated systems
  • Operate independently while supported by a broader enforcement team and management

Most working hours are spent outdoors with regular public interaction, requiring resilience, confidence, and professionalism.

Candidate Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills with a confident and professional attitude
  • Ability to manage difficult conversations with calmness and resilience
  • Comfortable working outside in various weather conditions
  • Basic proficiency in IT, including report writing
  • Dependable, proactive, and attentive to detail
  • Capable of working alone while adhering to procedures
  • Possession of a driving licence is advantageous but not mandatory

Employment Details & Benefits

  • £14.80 hourly rate on a full-time permanent contract
  • 40 hours weekly from Monday to Sunday, with shifts between 8am and 6pm, including occasional weekends
  • 28 days paid annual leave inclusive of bank holidays
