Engineering Officer - Upper Hutt

Role Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and focused Engineering Officer to become part of the Assets and Performance team within the Environment Group. This permanent, full-time role is based at our Upper Hutt depot and plays a vital role in ensuring that assets are maintained and operated in line with service levels established with Greater Wellington's council, partners, and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate closely with the broader Environment Group to uphold effective asset maintenance and management practices.
• Support best practice asset management by assisting with the oversight of the asset management information system and work planning activities.
• Provide engineering expertise for investigations, asset operations, maintenance, and infrastructure construction.
• Lead and supervise operational personnel on assigned projects.
• Offer guidance and advice to the public, territorial authorities, and others on operational matters.
• Contribute actively to operational responses concerning flood risk.

Required Skills and Experience

• Preferably hold a tertiary qualification such as NZDE or NZCE in Civil Engineering, or have equivalent experience in civil or river engineering focused on construction and project supervision.
• Proven experience in managing staff and communicating effectively across diverse groups and organizational levels.
• Familiarity with asset management systems, including relevant procedures, processes, and reporting requirements.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging appropriately for various audiences.
• Comfortable working outdoors under all weather conditions.
• Skilled and confident navigating rugged terrains, private lands, and river crossings.
• Strong knowledge of Health, Safety and Wellbeing principles, with the capacity to follow established procedures and protocols.

Compensation and Terms

Greater Wellington is a Living Wage Employer committed to ensuring fair remuneration throughout our workforce and supply chain. The total remuneration package for this role ranges from $80,579 to $120,868 per annum, with a midpoint at $100,724. Starting salary will be dependent on the applicant’s skills and experience. Agency applications are not considered.
