Role Overview

The Engineering Manager will lead a newly formed team within the Managed Threat Response engineering squad in Bengaluru, focusing on Mailroom and Threat Portal, contributing to Managed Email Incident Response and Remediation products. This role involves building and managing the team from hiring through to delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Recruit, onboard, and retain a skilled engineering squad, collaborating closely with HR and recruitment teams.
• Manage team output, technical debt, on-call duties, and stakeholder expectations simultaneously to ensure balanced delivery.
• Conduct developmental one-on-one meetings, set explicit expectations, and provide candid feedback promptly, including challenging conversations.
• Create an environment that balances structure and autonomy, enabling engineers to excel technically while owning their decisions.
• Promote AI-first engineering as a collective team approach, supporting development of autonomous AI-driven workflows and maintaining high quality standards for outputs.
• Provide technical guidance by deciding when to coach or intervene in technical decisions and resolve disagreements constructively.
• Collaborate with Product, Support, and other teams to represent technical perspectives and delivery status transparently to senior leadership.
• Proactively identify and reduce technical or delivery risks and monitor cloud resource consumption to optimize costs without sacrificing performance.

Qualifications and Experience

• Previous informal or formal leadership experience, ideally transitioning from technical roles to managing engineers.
• Strong engineering background with proven experience developing and operating backend services at scale, credible in design and code discussions.
• Demonstrated commitment to developing engineers through mentorship, technical leadership, or onboarding roles, including giving constructive feedback.
• Proficiency in AI-first engineering workflows, with hands-on experience integrating AI tools in development processes and understanding quality control over AI outputs.
• Ability to balance rapid delivery with engineering excellence, communicating trade-offs to both technical teams and executives effectively.
• Experience or clear involvement in hiring, assessing, and integrating engineering talent.
• Excellent communication skills across technical and non-technical colleagues, particularly in distributed and multiple time zone contexts.
• Genuine enthusiasm for shifting focus from direct problem-solving to enabling team growth and success.
• Preferable, but not required: background in cybersecurity or email security, experience with incident response and on-call rotations, and managing distributed or newly formed teams.
