Position Summary

As an Engineering Manager at JumpCloud, you will oversee one to two teams, taking strong ownership of product features, frameworks, and delivering results punctually. Your expert knowledge in the authentication and identity domain will guide your teams through unspecified challenges, influence tactical change management, and maintain the continuous availability and health of services.

Primary Responsibilities

• Ensure safe delivery of modern identity functionalities by fostering a 'secure-by-default' culture, enforcing rigorous testing and gradual rollouts.
• Act as a proactive systems strategist, bridging overarching vision with tactical execution by anticipating and negotiating complex downstream dependencies involving networks, databases, and devices well before development phases.
• Lead architectural roadmaps transitioning components to scalable, cloud-native frameworks while driving initiatives to handle load spikes, database scaling, and data residency requirements.
• Evolve core directory protocols such as LDAP and RADIUS to support growing enterprise traffic by migrating existing systems to self-healing, highly scalable cloud infrastructures.

Key Duties

• Manage teams consisting of seasoned professionals with accountability for staffing, budgeting, and consistently achieving medium-term objectives within set timelines.
• Engage deeply with teams to gain technical credibility, nurture psychological safety, provide immediate coaching to facilitate career development, and proactively resolve conflicts to avoid blockers.
• Maintain stringent operational oversight through uncompromising release protocols.
• Foster collaborative relationships with stakeholders and drive urgent, tactical change management to eliminate obstacles and solve complex issues.
• Provide hands-on expertise for authentication services, utilizing metrics to guide decisions and ensuring transparent cross-functional communication.
• Incorporate automated AI workflows to streamline repetitive tasks and enhance engineering capacity.
• Advocate for Spec-Driven Development standards, where engineers use detailed specifications and AI-assisted coding tools such as Cursor and GitHub Copilot, while maintaining rigorous accountability for test coverage and code quality.
• Clarify how team objectives align with broader departmental goals, ensuring clear direction and purpose.

Candidate Profile

• At least 12 years of experience in software engineering, including 8+ years as an individual contributor at senior technical levels such as Staff Engineer or Tech Lead, and 4+ years in direct engineering management roles.
• In-depth knowledge and domain expertise in Identity & Access Management (IAM), authentication protocols, and related platform architectures.
• Proven capability to apply sound technical judgment amid ambiguity, resolve complex problems, and make decisive strategic decisions within demanding environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• University degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field.

Location and Work Conditions

This is a remote-first role based in India, requiring candidates to reside and be authorized to work in India. Engineers must be prepared to participate in on-call rotations to promptly respond to alerts during assigned shifts.

Language Requirements

English fluency in speaking and writing is mandatory, as internal business and interview processes are conducted primarily in English.
