With over 225 million active users monthly, Mozilla is pioneering innovations in various fields including AI, social media, and security, while prioritizing privacy and open access.

The company is fully owned by the Mozilla Foundation, ensuring decisions align only with the mission rather than shareholder interests. Mozilla’s global team contributes to open-source software initiatives to empower users to control their internet experience.

Team and Role Overview

The Ads Engineering group at Mozilla focuses on creating advertising technologies that respect user privacy and support Mozilla’s products. Their remit includes building stable, scalable backend services and integrations that deliver sponsored content in Firefox products.

In the Engineering Manager role within Ads Engineering, you will lead software engineers who manage the Firefox Suggest Ads project. Your team works on backend solutions, partner collaborations, experimentation tooling, and user-facing products that offer relevant sponsored recommendations while safeguarding privacy and quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mentor and grow a team of engineers, fostering their technical and professional development.
  • Guide your team through the delivery lifecycle of Firefox Suggest Ads initiatives, adapting to evolving privacy, policy, and business requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers and stakeholders to clarify direction amidst ambiguity particularly related to user data and privacy.
  • Ensure that software solutions meet standards for reliability, maintainability, security, and privacy.
  • Establish supportive team environments featuring effective communication and sound processes for navigating uncertainties.
  • Engage in recruiting and onboarding to expand and strengthen your team over time.

Candidate Qualifications

  • Minimum six years of professional software engineering experience, with at least two years in a people management role.
  • Proven success leading teams to consistently deliver production-grade software.
  • Demonstrated judgment balancing priorities, execution speed, and long-term system sustainability.
  • Familiarity with contemporary software development practices including planning, issue management, and delivery workflows.
  • Strong collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams such as product management and privacy.
  • Experience supporting engineers with diverse backgrounds and varying skill levels.
  • Comfortable in distributed and asynchronous work cultures.
  • Relevant experience in domains like search, advertisements, recommendations, marketplaces, browser or client platform integrations, or other sensitive privacy-focused products; or aptitude for rapidly mastering complex, trust-sensitive domains.
  • Alignment with Mozilla’s core values of inclusivity, relationship-building, responsible participation, and resilience.

Benefits and Compensation

  • Performance-based bonus programs rewarding collective success.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance plans.
  • Robust retirement contributions with immediate full vesting.
  • Company-wide quarterly wellness days.
  • Holiday benefits including a birthday day off.
  • One-time home office setup stipend.
  • Annual budget dedicated to professional growth.
  • Quarterly stipends to support well-being.
  • Substantial paid parental leave options.
  • Employee referral bonus incentives.
  • Additional benefits vary by country, including life insurance, disability, and employee assistance programs.

Diversity and Inclusion

Mozilla is committed to fostering a diverse, equitable, inclusive workplace. Applications are encouraged from underrepresented and equity-seeking groups including but not limited to women, Indigenous peoples, racialized communities, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ individuals. Reasonable accommodations are provided during hiring and employment to qualified individuals with disabilities.

The company maintains a strict non-discrimination policy across all legally protected categories to ensure a respectful and welcoming environment for all.
