Job description
Overview
Join Tonkin + Taylor's Water team to contribute to resilient water projects across New Zealand and the Pacific. We tackle complex hydrological challenges including catchment hydrology, flood risk analysis, stormwater management, water infrastructure, hydropower, drought, and climate resilience. This role is ideal for an intermediate to senior engineer with a strong foundation in hydrology who is eager to apply their skills in consulting, local government, or infrastructure contexts.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct hydrological studies, rainfall-runoff modeling, flood estimation, and catchment assessments for various water projects.
- Assist in flood risk management, hydraulic modeling, climate resilience, and flood modeling efforts.
- Contribute to design and evaluation of hydraulic structures, stormwater systems, and water infrastructure.
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports, design documentation, and assessments.
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams comprising engineers, scientists, and planners.
- Liaise with clients, local councils, infrastructure providers, and stakeholders to facilitate project success.
- Support proposals, business development, and client relations appropriate to experience.
- Mentor junior team members and promote technical excellence initiatives within the company.
Candidate Profile
- Degree in Civil, Environmental, or Water Resources Engineering or a related field.
- Experience in hydrology, flood estimation, catchment modeling, or water resource evaluations.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
- Familiarity with hydrology analysis and modeling software; experience with similar tools is beneficial.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Collaborative approach working with clients and diverse project teams.
- Curious and practical mindset capable of translating technical data into accessible advice.
- Dedication to ongoing learning and technical mastery.
- Chartered status or progress towards chartership is a plus.
