The Opportunity
As an Embedded Software Engineer in our Hamilton team, you will contribute to world-class security products by designing, developing, testing, and maintaining embedded software. You'll collaborate closely with hardware engineers, architects, and product teams to tackle complex challenges and deliver trusted technology worldwide.
Technology and Work Environment
Your work will involve embedded Linux and RTOS platforms on ARM architectures, board bring-up, and debugging alongside electronics engineers, using modern C++ supported by continuous integration and automated testing frameworks. Security is integral, featuring secure boot, hardware-backed key storage, and cryptographic protections designed from the start, ensuring product reliability and trustworthiness for over a decade.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and sustain embedded software components and features.
- Work with hardware engineers on board initialization, debugging, and integration efforts.
- Participate in requirement gathering, solution design, and document technical aspects effectively.
- Profile software performance and identify enhancement opportunities.
- Troubleshoot and support existing product deployments.
- Engage in code reviews, automated tests, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Estimate task efforts, prioritize workloads, and deliver results within agile teams.
- Continuously enhance technical skills and uphold best engineering practices.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a practical problem solver who enjoys close hardware interaction and building robust embedded solutions with a collaborative mindset, articulate communication, and dedication to continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Experience
- Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent industry experience.
- Minimum 3 years of professional software development experience.
- Proficiency in Embedded C and C++ development.
- Solid understanding of digital electronics, microprocessors, and embedded systems.
- Experience with debugging tools, version control, and modern development environments.
- Familiarity with automated testing and software quality methodologies.
- Knowledge of multi-threaded and asynchronous programming.
- Exposure to board bring-up, driver development, or embedded Linux systems.
- Python and/or Ruby programming experience is advantageous.
- Ability to work effectively in agile, cross-disciplinary teams.
- Desirable knowledge of cryptography, embedded security principles, or Zephyr OS is a plus.
