Role Overview

As an Electrical Estimator, you will be responsible for preparing precise cost estimates and bid documents for a variety of electrical construction projects. Collaborating closely with suppliers, clients, subcontractors, and the Chief Estimator, you will develop competitive pricing strategies and ensure estimates adhere to company standards from early design stages through to construction. Your duties include reviewing design documents, performing detailed quantity take-offs, evaluating project risks, and compiling final proposals. Supporting junior estimators, managing estimating software and pricing databases, and professionally representing the company during meetings and site visits are also key parts of this position.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Certified Engineering Technologist credential, 309A Electrical License, or Electrical Certificate of Qualification is preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may also be considered.
  • At least 4 years of experience in estimating electrical construction projects in industrial, commercial, or institutional sectors.
  • Strong capability to estimate various project types and produce comprehensive proposals with minimal oversight.
  • Proficiency in BlueBeam and Accubid estimating and quantity take-off software.
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.
  • Good understanding of procurement processes, accounting principles, and project management.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, and Excel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze tender documents for accuracy and compliance standards.
  • Examine drawings and specifications to identify design issues and generate requests for information (RFIs) as needed.
  • Conduct risk assessments prior to bidding and formulate installation approaches.
  • Offer value-engineering suggestions to enhance cost efficiency.
  • Carry out detailed quantity take-offs and input data into estimating software.
  • Calculate material, labor, equipment, and overall job costs accurately.
  • Assess supplier and subcontractor quotations for compliance and suitability.
  • Create scope letters and qualification notes.
  • Oversee cost control strategies throughout planning and construction phases.
  • Present estimates to internal stakeholders and clients.
  • Foster strong industry relationships and represent the company during site walkthroughs and design meetings.
  • Review estimates prepared by other team members for accuracy.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to new hires within the estimating team.

Additional Information

  • Compensation ranges between $95,000 and $120,000 annually.
  • Up to 20% travel may be required.
