Role Overview

Hays is partnering with a prominent regional financial institution to hire a Director-level Commodities Trader for their growing Global Markets division in Dubai. This pivotal role focuses on trading commodity derivatives spanning energy and metals sectors. The trader will be instrumental in driving proprietary and client-related revenues, managing complex risk profiles, and supporting the expansion of the commodities franchise. The position offers substantial autonomy, engagement with senior leadership, and involvement in shaping strategic business direction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and expand a commodities trading portfolio covering energy and metals markets.
  • Execute trades in commodity derivatives such as futures, swaps, options, and structured products.
  • Achieve proprietary and client-driven profits by managing risks and positioning within the markets.
  • Price, design, and complete derivative deals tailored to client needs.
  • Administer market risk, volatility exposure, and non-linear product risks throughout the trading book.
  • Establish and sustain strong relationships with institutional clients, corporate counterparties, and internal teams.
  • Collaborate closely with sales, structuring, risk management, and treasury departments to deliver commodity solutions.
  • Identify fresh market opportunities, revenue sources, and product development initiatives.
  • Keep abreast of global commodity markets, macroeconomic trends, and geopolitical events affecting trading.
  • Support the continued growth and enhancement of the broader commodities platform.

Candidate Profile and Requirements

  • Possess 5 to 10 years’ experience in commodities trading, preferably in energy, gas, oil, metals, or commodity derivatives markets.
  • Proven track record managing risk and profit and loss in active trading environments.
  • Deep comprehension of commodity derivatives including futures, swaps, and options.
  • Professional history within banking, commodity trading firms, energy trading platforms, or financial market institutions.
  • Familiarity with structured transactions, volatility products, or non-linear risk management is a plus.
  • Commercially astute with a capability to spot and capitalize on lucrative trading opportunities.
  • High-level quantitative and analytical expertise.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work productively with clients and cross-functional internal teams.
  • Experience operating trading, risk management, and market analytics software platforms.
  • Knowledge of Python or other quantitative programming languages is advantageous.
