Position Overview

The Electrical Estimator will be responsible for preparing, reviewing, and delivering electrical discipline project estimates. This involves offering expert estimating support, producing conceptual cost assessments, conducting cost analyses, and contributing to departmental procedure development. The role includes creating and maintaining historical estimate databases and guiding others on estimate-specific tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce cost estimates for major projects locally across Canada.
  • Develop detailed estimates for complex, large-scale work.
  • Analyze owner plans and specs to fully comprehend projects and devise construction strategies as the basis for estimates.
  • Examine all tender and contract documentation alongside legal advice.
  • Collaborate with planning, scheduling, procurement, and proposal teams.
  • Determine installation quantities using drawings and specifications.
  • Present estimates to management and external stakeholders.
  • Engage in continuous improvement initiatives for estimation methods and workflows within the team.
  • Maintain professional and trustworthy relations with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and other professionals.

Qualification Criteria

  • Bachelor’s degree or Technical Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent industry experience.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in electrical estimating on major projects.
  • Strong familiarity with the Canadian construction market.
  • Proficient communication skills in English; French is considered an asset.
  • Effective at presentations and negotiation.
  • Advanced computing skills, including MS Office; familiarity with BlueBeam software is advantageous.
  • Experience in industrial, hydro, oil and gas, and mining sectors is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel for site visits or client meetings related to estimates.
  • Highly organized, adaptable, team-oriented, detail-focused, and capable of managing multiple priorities effectively.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines despite fluctuating tasks and demands.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary range: $85,000 to $125,000 annually, with potential variation based on education, experience, and skills.
