Mechanical Estimator

Position Overview

Ganotec is seeking a Mechanical Estimator to join the Estimating department in Oakville, Ontario. This role involves preparing, reviewing, and presenting detailed mechanical estimates for diverse project proposals within the industrial market across Canada. The estimator will support project teams by developing conceptual estimates, analyzing costs, updating historical cost databases, and contributing to the enhancement of department procedures. Additionally, the position includes providing guidance on specific estimating tasks to other team members.

Primary Responsibilities

• Analyze drawings and project specifications to determine quantity requirements for installations.
• Construct detailed cost estimates for substantial projects locally and nationwide.
• Create comprehensive and complex estimates for large-scale work.
• Study owner plans and specifications thoroughly to understand project scope and develop construction plans for estimating purposes.
• Review all tender and contractual documents in coordination with the company's legal department.
• Collaborate with planning, scheduling, procurement, and proposal teams to ensure cohesive project estimation.
• Present detailed estimates to company management and external clients professionally.
• Maintain strong, trustworthy relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and professionals.
• Participate in team efforts to continuously improve estimation processes.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or Technical Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience relevant to mechanical estimating.
• Minimum of five years’ experience in mechanical estimating for major project work.
• In-depth understanding of the Canadian construction market.
• Strong English communication skills, with French considered an asset.
• Proficiency in presentation and negotiation.
• Advanced computer proficiency, including MS Office; familiarity with Bluebeam software is advantageous.
• Experience in industrial sectors such as hydro, oil and gas, and mining is beneficial.
• Willingness to travel to various project sites and client meetings as necessary.
• Highly organized, flexible, detail-focused team player capable of managing multiple tasks and prioritizing workload to meet deadlines.

Compensation and Benefits

The base salary range offered for this position is between $90,000 and $140,000 annually, subject to variation depending on education, experience, skills, and location.
