Job description

About the Role

Join Apto to lead and shape the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) approach across all European hyperscale data centre construction projects. As a key member of the team, you will be instrumental in fostering a proactive safety culture and ensuring compliance with international EHS standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and implement EHS strategies for European hyperscale data centre construction initiatives.
  • Promote a safety-first culture through targeted communications, behavioural programs, and worker engagement.
  • Manage EHS systems in alignment with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001, and ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise all high-risk work activities including work at height, critical lifting operations, live electrical work, plant operations, and confined space access, approving risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) and permits.
  • Oversee construction site safety operations, conducting audits, inspections, hazard identification, competency checks, and monitoring performance against KPIs.
  • Lead thorough investigations of incidents, identify root causes, and enforce corrective and preventative actions; coordinate emergency response plans.
  • Act as the primary EHS representative interfacing with clients, regulatory bodies, contractors, and suppliers; ensure contractor compliance and prepare detailed EHS reports.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive EHS master plans at the campus level.
  • Serve as Apto’s senior EHS leader, championing a consistent safety-first mindset across all teams and projects.
  • Appoint and manage relationships with external EHS consultants.

Required Qualifications

  • Between 8 and 15+ years of leadership experience in EHS within data centre, construction, industrial, or mission-critical environments.
  • Expertise in risk assessment, management of high-risk activities, and incident investigation.
  • Proven skills in managing contractors, vendors, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Deep understanding of EHS management systems compliant with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001.
  • Strong abilities in communication, leadership, and stakeholder relationship management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional EHS certifications such as CSP, NEBOSH, IOSH PSDP/PSCS, CIH, or equivalent.
  • Formal qualifications as ISO Lead Auditor or Implementer.
  • Experience overseeing simultaneous operations (SIMOPS), extensive campus environments, or mission-critical infrastructure projects.
  • Background in hyperscale data centre construction or heavy industry sectors.

Location and Travel

This position is based in Dublin with approximately 40% travel across European locations.
