Overview

We are seeking a seasoned Economist to integrate with our Institutional Equities Research team based in Mumbai's BKC. This role entails developing independent forecasts and assessments of Indian and global macroeconomic landscapes, delivering insights that translate economic trends into actionable investment strategies. The position demands strong expertise in macroeconomic research, forecasting, policy analysis, and financial market understanding.

Key Responsibilities

  • Formulate independent perspectives on both Indian and international economic conditions.
  • Conduct detailed analysis on GDP growth, inflation rates, interest rates, liquidity, employment, consumption, investment, industrial output, trade, and fiscal metrics.
  • Spot significant macroeconomic trends, potential risks, and opportunities affecting financial markets.
  • Track global economic developments and determine their effects on India.
  • Build and continuously enhance macroeconomic forecasting models for variables such as GDP, CPI/WPI inflation, interest rates, liquidity, and currency fluctuations.
  • Perform scenario analysis and stress testing on crucial macro variables, revising forecasts based on new data and policy changes.
  • Monitor and analyze RBI monetary policy, government initiatives, fiscal developments, and budget announcements; gauge their influence on growth, inflation, liquidity, and markets.
  • Generate prompt research notes surrounding important policy decisions and deliver independent evaluations of policy trajectories and market implications.
  • Convert macroeconomic insights into strategic investment recommendations; analyze their effects on equities, fixed income, currency, and commodity markets.
  • Collaborate extensively with research and strategy teams for integrating macroeconomic insights into sector and company analyses.
  • Lead the preparation and publication of macroeconomic outlooks, economic and strategy reports, thematic analyses, and policy commentary.
  • Provide economic commentary pre- and post-key data releases, supporting distinctive research views with robust data analytics.
  • Engage with institutional investors, fund managers, and clients through presentations, meetings, webinars, and calls, strengthening the organization's reputation as an economic strategy expert.
  • Analyze extensive datasets to reveal economic patterns; maintain thorough databases of macroeconomic and financial indicators with statistical support for forecasts.
  • Work closely alongside senior leadership and Institutional Equities teams; mentor juniors and contribute to innovative research products and investment strategies.

Qualifications & Experience

  • MA/MSc in Economics, MBA/PGDM in Finance/Economics, or CA with significant exposure to macroeconomics and markets.
  • At least 6 years in relevant roles such as economics research, macro research, strategy, financial research, or closely related disciplines.

Preferred Experience

  • Background in institutional equity or macro research, brokerage/sell-side research, asset management, investment banking, banking treasury or economic research, economic consulting, policy research, or think tanks is advantageous.

Essential Skills & Competencies

  • Deep understanding of Indian macroeconomic dynamics and financial markets.
  • Expertise in monetary and fiscal policy evaluation.
  • Proficiency in economic forecasting and modeling techniques.
  • Capability to align macroeconomic developments with investment market implications.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical abilities combined with excellent research and report writing.
  • Effective presentation and communication skills tailored for institutional client interaction.
  • Competence in Excel and other economic/statistical analysis software.
  • Ability to produce independent and unique economic perspectives within strict deadlines.

  • Macro and policy-oriented research publications.
  • Investment and market strategy documentation including sector and asset class impact evaluations.
