Driver Helper

Job Overview

The Driver Helper partners with the Driver to deliver efficient and courteous waste collection services along designated residential routes. This role involves assisting with the safe loading of waste materials, carrying bags and containers to the vehicle, and guiding the Driver during vehicle maneuvers. Maintaining the cleanliness and operational readiness of the waste vehicle is also a core responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

• Ride along on waste collection vehicles assisting the Driver on assigned routes.
• Operate packing mechanisms including levers and handles controlling lifting and loading systems.
• Regularly clean waste from the packer blade and vehicle body during disposal trips; spray and wash the hopper and truck as needed.
• Conduct thorough pre- and post-operation vehicle inspections as per company regulations and report any safety concerns.
• Engage courteously with customers, dispatchers, and staff daily to ensure timely and professional service delivery.
• Monitor waste loads continuously to identify unacceptable materials.
• Handle cleanup of waste spills promptly following safety protocols and standards.
• Maintain departmental productivity standards to ensure timely route completion.
• Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures.
• Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent education.
• Between 1 to 3 years’ experience in comparable roles; experience in solid waste industry preferred.

Physical and Work Environment Conditions

• Capable of lifting heavy materials weighing 50 to 100 pounds regularly in a shop environment.
• Works primarily outdoors exposed to varying weather conditions.
