Job Overview

First Student is seeking a Dispatcher to join its team in Gulfport, Mississippi. This critical role involves managing bus dispatch operations to maintain timely route performance while supporting and advising drivers and monitors directly on the front line.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the scheduling and dispatching of all bus routes
  • Provide counseling and coaching to drivers and monitors to enhance performance
  • Handle extensive communication via phone and radio channels
  • Address scheduling issues and driver complaints, escalating to the Operations Supervisor or Contract Manager as necessary
  • Act as the main point of contact for major contracted customers
  • Process charter reservations, billing, and driver payroll when required
  • Resolve problems related to student drop-off and pick-up logistics
  • Perform backup driver responsibilities and general clerical work as needed
  • Complete assigned special projects
  • Assist with daily supervisory activities of operations

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Between 3 and 5 years of relevant experience
  • High school diploma or an equivalent credential
  • Familiarity with radio dispatch systems
  • Strong communication abilities and customer service orientation
  • Capable of working effectively under tight deadlines and pressure
  • Background in terminal operations, dispatch, or as a driver is preferred
  • Computer literacy is necessary
  • Compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) drug testing and physical examination policies; use of Schedule I drugs including marijuana is prohibited

Language Proficiency

Mastery of the English language is essential as federally mandated safety training, company policies, and employment communications are conducted exclusively in English.
