Role Overview
Pacific Western Transportation Ltd is seeking a Dispatcher to join their team in Medicine Hat, Alberta. This position is focused on maintaining effective daily communication between drivers and operations staff to ensure safe and efficient completion of school routes and charter services. The Dispatcher must exhibit patience and strong communication skills when interacting with drivers, parents, schools, and the general public.
Work Schedule
The workweek is Monday through Friday.
Primary Responsibilities
- Confirm all driver check-ins, including late arrivals, early departures, absences, and professional development days.
- Coordinate responses to vehicle breakdowns by linking drivers and maintenance teams, ensuring all affected routes are completed.
- Handle phone communications professionally to address concerns from drivers, parents, schools, and the public.
- Perform administrative tasks such as payroll management, filing, and report preparation.
- Audit drivers' Hours of Service compliance.
- Support charter bookings and management.
- Conduct accurate data entry tasks.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Well-developed map-reading abilities and comprehensive knowledge of the local city road network, schools, and major landmarks.
- Excellent verbal communication skills and courteous phone etiquette.
- Strong multitasking capabilities and composure under pressure.
- High attention to detail.
- Proficiency in computer use.
