About the Role and Team
This leadership opportunity is offered in PwC Australia's US Tax Advisory team, located in Melbourne or Sydney. The team specialises in navigating complex international tax regulations to address the unique requirements of clients including high-net-worth individuals, executives, families, and privately held businesses facing intricate cross-border tax issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver high-quality US-Australia tax advisory and compliance projects, ensuring excellence in technical standards, commercial insights, and client engagement.
- Provide expert guidance on complex US international individual tax matters such as residency, foreign assets, pensions, trusts, companies, and reporting obligations.
- Offer practical tax structuring advice to high-net-worth clients and private enterprises regarding cross-border transactions and significant life or business events.
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior clients by simplifying complex tax legislation into clear, actionable advice and coordinating cross-jurisdictional multidisciplinary teams.
- Build and sustain strong relationships within PwC’s global network to deliver seamless solutions for complex international tax cases.
- Identify and pursue business development opportunities within Australia and the Asia-Pacific region, including proposal leadership and stakeholder relationship management.
- Contribute strategically to the practice’s growth, financial performance, and risk management efforts.
- Monitor and evaluate US and Australian tax developments affecting clients and spearhead timely industry insights and service innovations.
- Lead and mentor team members to foster a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and professional development.
- Oversee project planning including scope, resourcing, economics, quality assurance, and risk management for sustainable, profitable service delivery.
Candidate Profile and Qualifications
- Substantial experience in US individual and international tax advisory and compliance, proven in leading complex cross-border engagements.
- Profound technical expertise with US taxation matters for individuals with international interests including foreign investments, pensions, trusts, companies, and reporting requirements.
- Experience advising wealthy individuals, executives, families, and private businesses on tax matters.
- Good knowledge of Australian tax issues intersecting with US tax obligations; experience with Australian trusts and companies is valued.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in accounting, taxation, finance, economics or law.
- Professional credentials such as US CPA, Enrolled Agent, Legal qualification, Master of Taxation, or equivalents are highly regarded.
- Track record demonstrating success in originating business, leading proposal processes, generating new service offerings, and maintaining senior client relationships.
- Capability to lead, coach, and retain high-performing teams while managing multiple complex priorities.
- Exceptional analytical, judgement, and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strategic and commercial mindset with confidence to influence senior stakeholders and direct practice priorities.
- Client-centric approach driven by integrity, sound judgement, and commitment to quality.
- Collaborative leadership style capable of mobilizing multidisciplinary and cross-border teams.
