Director, Solution Architecture

About the Role

Matillion, creator of Maia—the AI Data Automation platform—is seeking a strategic and dynamic Director of Solution Architecture to lead its International Solution Architecture team. This leadership role encompasses oversight of senior Solution Architects across the EMEA, Middle East, and Africa regions. Matillion combines extensive data expertise with advanced agentic AI to automate and accelerate data workflows for enterprise clients such as Cisco, DocuSign, and Slack, supporting rapid business impact globally.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of senior Solution Architects to maximize technical delivery, customer success, and revenue across international territories.
• Engage as a technical executive sponsor on significant deals by participating in client meetings, strategy discussions, and architectural analyses.
• Manage operational routines including one-on-one coaching, crafting professional development plans, and monitoring team performance metrics.
• Lead strategic go-to-market efforts and the operational implementation of growth initiatives aimed at extending Matillion's global presence and increasing revenue over the coming 6 to 12 months.
• Develop and align partner ecosystem strategies within regional markets to synchronize technical architectures and scale business impact.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with international leadership to align pre-sales technical initiatives with broader business goals.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Over 10 years in technical enterprise roles such as Solution Architecture, Sales Engineering, or Professional Services, with a minimum of 5 years in leadership roles managing presales technical teams.
• Proven experience in complex, multi-stakeholder enterprise solution sales targeting multi-million-dollar ARR contributions.
• Practical knowledge of sales methodologies like MEDDPICC or Command of the Message, with demonstrated ability to implement these practices at a team level.
• Technical expertise in cloud computing environments including AWS, Azure, and GCP, as well as enterprise cloud data platforms such as Snowflake and Databricks.
• Strong understanding of both relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server) and NoSQL systems (MongoDB, Cassandra, DynamoDB).
• Hands-on experience with integration architectures, APIs, Linux operating systems, SQL technologies, and data pipeline development.
• Active involvement in leading or deploying AI projects with an emphasis on enterprise use of Generative and Agentic AI technologies (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, n8n).

Preferred Skills and Background

• Direct familiarity with data productivity tools and ETL/ELT platforms, such as Matillion’s own Data Productivity Cloud or competitor solutions.
• Experience with big data ecosystems including Spark/PySpark, data lakes/lakehouses, and Massively Parallel Processing (MPP) database systems such as Teradata, Vertica, and Netezza.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or related STEM disciplines, or equivalent practical expertise.

Compensation and Benefits

The role offers a competitive base salary ranging from £113,700 to £170,604 per annum, with additional sales commissions enabling total on-target earnings between £162,400 and £243,700 annually. Compensation is aligned with market standards based on experience, skills, and location.
