Role Overview
We are hiring a seasoned Director for Product Software Architecture and Engineering to establish and lead a new DevOps team focused on delivering an AI and container management service for Equinix Managed Solutions. This role requires collaborating with product management to define requirements, set service level objectives (SLOs), and operational targets. The successful candidate will ensure smooth integration of new services with global ordering and backend systems to enable self-service capabilities. Close partnership with EMS operations, fulfillment, and network architecture teams is essential to guarantee compatibility and seamless integration within existing infrastructure. Additionally, you will oversee enterprise-grade service operations as the platform scales globally.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and implement the technical vision, architectural strategy, and roadmap for Equinix's AI and Container Management Service.
- Collaborate with Product Management to align platform capabilities with customer needs and market trends.
- Set service level objectives, operational standards, and governance frameworks to ensure high service quality.
- Promote adoption of cloud-native engineering and operational best practices.
- Lead architectural and design decisions, including DevOps processes tailored for Kubernetes/OpenShift managed services.
- Ensure the platform's scalability, resilience, security, and readiness for operation.
- Drive automation for provisioning, deployment, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
- Work closely with network, infrastructure, and security teams for seamless global platform integration.
- Implement continuous system improvements by managing organizational changes and optimizing internal processes.
- Identify risks, gaps, and issues proactively and engage stakeholders to implement resolutions.
- Provide detailed, objective input to senior leadership and executives to guide decision-making.
- Gather stakeholder feedback to develop improvement plans fostering standardization across regions.
- Coordinate multiple portfolios ensuring effective release, change management, and support plans are communicated.
- Communicate portfolio statuses and budget utilization broadly to stakeholders.
- Develop and monitor operational KPIs to enhance service availability, performance, and customer satisfaction.
- Lead implementation of approved system enhancements, promoting best practices and standards.
- Build and grow a high-performing, global engineering and DevOps team.
- Oversee succession planning and contribute to talent development strategies.
- Drive talent growth through regular reviews, career development discussions, and personalized growth plans.
- Cultivate a culture that embraces ownership, innovation, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Proven leadership experience at the director level, managing managers and multiple software product/service deliveries.
- Demonstrated expertise leading DevOps, Platform Engineering, or Site Reliability Engineering teams.
- Extensive operational experience managing a highly available global service.
- Hands-on experience delivering and operating Kubernetes or preferably OpenShift infrastructures at scale.
- A minimum of 15 years of professional experience in software development leadership roles.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering is preferred.
Compensation and Benefits
The anticipated salary range varies by location; for example, in the United States offices, annual base pay ranges from $200,000 to $360,000, while Canadian compensation ranges from CAD 166,000 to 248,000. These figures represent base salary exclusive of bonuses, equity, or other benefits. Pay reflects factors such as role, level, location, and individual qualifications.
