Director of Software Engineering

Role Overview

Teletrac Navman is seeking a Director of Software Engineering to guide and enhance our software and mobile engineering capabilities across both core and client-facing platforms. This leadership role requires a hands-on individual deeply involved in complex environments, taking full ownership of engineering results, beyond merely managing teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end software delivery, focusing on reliability and excellent execution.
• Translate corporate and product strategies into actionable and measurable engineering outcomes.
• Develop robust operating procedures, standards, and accountability within engineering teams.
• Serve as the primary escalation point for intricate delivery and technical challenges.
• Manage customer support ticket lifecycles, backlog health, and service level agreements.
• Analyze root causes to minimize recurring support issues and enhance system stability.
• Ensure superior quality across frontend, backend services, and mobile platforms.
• Oversee intake, prioritization, and execution of support tickets and change requests.
• Collaborate with Product teams to define clear requirements and acceptance criteria.
• Plan releases and mitigate risks for seamless delivery across multiple workstreams.
• Take engineering ownership for substantial projects from start through completion.
• Provide credible estimates of effort, delivery timelines, and risk assessment.
• Coordinate efforts among firmware, data, reporting, and platform teams.
• Pioneer the integration of AI-driven tools to boost productivity, product quality, and support functions.
• Champion AI-assisted development workflows and collaborate with Product and Data teams to embed intelligence where possible.
• Lead and mentor engineering managers and senior engineers, fostering a high-performance, scalable team with strong succession planning.
• Promote a culture centered on ownership, technical expertise, and ongoing enhancement.
• Define key performance indicators covering delivery, quality, reliability, and throughput to monitor and improve engineering outcomes.
• Leverage data-driven insights to continuously optimize engineering performance.

Candidate Profile

• A seasoned engineering leader with over 12 years in software engineering and 8+ years in senior leadership roles.
• Experience managing multi-team or platform-level engineering organizations.
• Proficiency in mobile, backend, or full-stack development environments.
• Background in incorporating AI/ML technologies within products or engineering processes.
• Demonstrated accountability for delivery, operations, and handling production environments.
• Exposure to Agile, Hybrid, and Waterfall development methodologies at scale.
• Strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills with Product, PMO, and executive leadership.
• Experience delivering SaaS solutions or large-scale platform products.
• Preferred qualifications include knowledge of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, cloud-native design, and high-availability systems.
• Familiarity with sustainment-heavy or support-focused engineering contexts and IoT or telematics data platforms is advantageous.
