Director of Software Engineering

Overview

Teletrac Navman seeks a Director of Software Engineering to lead and advance our software and mobile engineering capabilities across core and client-facing platforms. This role demands a hands-on leader with high accountability, prepared to own engineering results end-to-end rather than just managing teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Complete ownership of software delivery, system reliability, and overall engineering execution.
• Convert company and product strategies into quantifiable engineering goals.
• Set up robust operating processes, standards, and enforce accountability across teams.
• Serve as the escalation point for complex delivery issues and technical challenges.
• Manage the lifecycle of customer support tickets, backlog health, and service level agreements.
• Mitigate recurring problems through thorough root cause analysis and systemic corrections.
• Ensure exceptional quality outcomes on frontend, backend services, and mobile platforms.
• Lead intake, prioritization, and fulfillment of support tickets and change requests.
• Collaborate with Product teams to clarify requirements and acceptance criteria.
• Oversee release scheduling, risk management, and coordinate multiple project streams.
• Take full engineering ownership of major projects from inception through completion.
• Provide reliable effort estimations, delivery timelines, and risk mitigation strategies.
• Coordinate cross-functional work involving firmware, data, reporting, and platform engineering teams.
• Introduce and promote AI-driven technologies to enhance productivity, quality, and support functions.
• Lead integration of AI-assisted development tools and workflows across engineering.
• Work in partnership with Product and Data teams to embed intelligent features where appropriate.
• Manage, mentor, and grow engineering managers and senior engineers.
• Build a scalable and high-performing engineering organization with solid succession planning.
• Foster a culture emphasizing ownership, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.
• Define and track key performance indicators related to delivery, quality, reliability, and throughput.
• Leverage data analytics to drive ongoing improvements in engineering effectiveness and outcomes.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• A minimum of 12 years in software engineering with at least 8 years in senior engineering leadership roles.
• Demonstrated leadership experience managing multiple teams or a platform-level engineering group.
• Strong experience with mobile, backend, and/or full-stack systems.
• Proven background in integrating AI and machine learning into products or engineering workflows.
• Ownership experience in delivery, operations, and managing production environments.
• Practical familiarity with Agile, Hybrid, and Waterfall methodologies at scale.
• Exceptional stakeholder engagement with Product, PMO, and executive leadership teams.
• Experience in delivering SaaS solutions or large-scale platform products.

Preferred Skills

• Expertise in DevOps practices, continuous integration/delivery pipelines, and cloud-native system designs.
• Experience developing high-availability, customer-facing platforms.
• Background working in sustainment or support-intensive engineering environments.
• Exposure to IoT, telematics, or data platforms ingesting device information.
