Role Overview
Convoso is seeking a Director of Software Engineering to spearhead teams responsible for developing, scaling, and managing our customer-facing apps, APIs, internal tools, and data infrastructure. This leadership position demands hands-on technical involvement focusing on execution, team output, scalable architecture, and operational excellence, while actively integrating AI to enhance software development, deployment, and operation processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote and integrate AI technologies to boost developer efficiency, enhance software quality, automate workflows, aid troubleshooting, improve documentation, and streamline engineering operations.
- Lead and nurture engineering teams, ensuring timely delivery and meeting quality expectations.
- Define, monitor, and optimize engineering KPIs, development methodologies, and performance benchmarks.
- Oversee project backlogs, sprint cycles, priority setting, dependency management, and resource allocation.
- Collaborate closely with Product, QA, DevOps, and Customer Success departments to eliminate obstacles and maintain transparency of project progress and risks.
- Recruit, mentor, and manage engineering personnel performance.
- Contribute to the design of software and infrastructure architecture aimed at reducing technical debt, boosting security, scalability, and uptime.
- Lead incident response to critical production issues, conducting root cause analyses and implementing preventive improvements.
- Work alongside engineering leadership to align team structure, staffing, tooling, and technology investments.
Candidate Profile
- Proven experience applying AI tools to enhance everyday engineering workflows.
- At least 10 years of software engineering experience in SaaS environments focused on scalable, highly available applications.
- Minimum 4 years working with PHP using MVC frameworks like Symfony, Zend, or Laravel.
- Over 7 years managing MySQL or similar relational databases.
- 3+ years of frontend experience with HTML, JavaScript, and CSS including frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js.
- 5+ years in leadership roles such as Manager, Team Lead, or Director within software engineering.
- Hands-on with microservices architecture design, development, and maintenance.
- Skilled in handling complex software projects across design, production, and ongoing support phases.
- Strong background in Agile methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban.
- Experience working collaboratively with Product, QA, DevOps, and other business units.
- Proficient in hiring, developing, and managing engineering teams.
- Excellent technical, business, and executive communication abilities.
- Knowledge of additional programming languages such as Python, Node.js, C++, or Perl is advantageous.
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical expertise.
Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to VoIP and real-time communications tech such as SIP, RTP, Asterisk, FreeSWITCH, Kamailio, or related systems.
- Understanding of call routing, telephony infrastructure, SBCs, and carrier integrations.
- Experience supporting or building large-scale real-time voice communication platforms.

Minimum education
Master's Degree
