Position Overview

We are seeking a Director of Engineering for Platform to lead our Global Developer Engineering division within the Tech Foundations vertical. This role is based in Berlin and focuses on streamlining engineering processes via a unified developer platform and infrastructure that supports over 4,000 engineers globally. The goal is to accelerate product delivery, improve system reliability, and optimize cloud infrastructure expenses.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute a strategic platform and infrastructure roadmap aligned with business goals, managing budgets and demonstrating ROI to executive leaders.
• Promote an internal "platform-as-a-product" methodology, delivering self-service tools and standardized workflows that reduce complexity for developers.
• Lead and scale a global engineering team of over 50 platform engineers in multiple locations, fostering a culture of accountability and ongoing learning.
• Coach engineering managers and coordinate with embedded platform teams across subsidiaries to uphold consistent engineering standards.
• Oversee the design and implementation of automated, secure, multi-cloud infrastructure (AWS and GCP) and microservices aligned with current technology best practices.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years in software engineering, DevOps, or site reliability engineering, including 5+ years specializing in platform engineering at scale.
• Demonstrable success in building and scaling developer platforms in complex, distributed organizations.
• Expertise in cloud-native microservices, event-driven architectures, containerization, and observability.
• Strong coding proficiency with languages such as Go and deep knowledge of AWS and GCP infrastructures.
• At least 5 years of senior leadership experience managing multiple teams with proven impact on internal customer success.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to influence and secure buy-in from executive stakeholders.
• Proven ability to manage large infrastructure budgets and generate operational efficiencies.
• Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience, is advantageous.
