Director - Engineering

Overview

We are seeking a Director of Engineering to spearhead the transformation of JioHotstar's engineering division into a globally recognized tech operation. This role focuses on delivering a feature set for our international users that matches what we offer domestically in India, while streamlining the engineering team's ability to develop, test, and deploy features efficiently across the globe. The position is based onsite in Bangalore.

About the Team

The JioHotstar international engineering group powers one of the world's most watched streaming platforms, serving audiences in India, the UK, Singapore, Canada, and other countries. The team develops technology that supports international growth through region-specific experiences built on a unified platform architecture. Projects include subscriber growth initiatives, market-tailored product innovations, and scalable frameworks attention to diverse content and business needs globally.

Key Responsibilities

• Set and drive the engineering vision and roadmap for international markets in alignment with overall product and business goals.
• Recruit, nurture, and lead multiple high-performing engineering teams across various disciplines like platform, backend, client applications, data, and machine learning.
• Enable multi-tenant capabilities in certain subsystems to enhance feature parity for international services.
• Create tools and processes to facilitate consistent and efficient global software development, testing, and deployment similar to domestic operations.
• Maintain excellence in system reliability, scalability, security, monitoring, cost management, and engineering quality.
• Collaborate extensively with cross-functional partners such as Product, Design, Content, Advertising, Data Science, Business teams, and external collaborators to define strategies and deliver results.
• Translate ambiguous business challenges into well-structured technology platforms, actionable roadmaps, and measurable goals.
• Promote a workplace culture centered on ownership, innovation, sound technical judgment, and delivering business outcomes.

Candidate Profile and Skills

• Proven experience managing multiple engineering teams and leaders responsible for large-scale consumer-facing or platform products.
• Demonstrated success in creating products or platforms from inception and scaling them at various maturity levels.
• Solid grasp of consumer product development balancing user experience, technological feasibility, and business value.
• Hands-on experience integrating with third-party platforms and building extensible APIs, partner frameworks, or platform capabilities.
• Track record delivering complex, multi-disciplinary projects involving multiple engineering and business units.
• Ability to thrive in uncertain, fast-changing environments and clearly define technology solutions.
• Strong leadership capabilities to hire, grow, and retain top engineering talent and build effective management teams.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to articulate technical strategies and trade-offs to diverse stakeholders.

Preferred Education and Experience

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Machine Learning, accompanied by over 13 years in software development roles and more than 5 years in leadership positions.
