Role Overview
As the Director of Cyber Security Operations, you will spearhead the strategic leadership of Global Relay’s operational cyber defense capabilities. Your mandate will include crafting the vision, operational model, and strategy, while nurturing a high-performing team dedicated to operational excellence and continuous advancement. You will collaborate with executive leaders and cross-functional teams including Engineering, Infrastructure, and Governance to align security operations with business objectives and minimize cyber risk.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the strategic roadmap and maturity plan for Security Operations.
- Lead teams responsible for Security Operations, Incident Response, Threat Hunting, Threat Intelligence, and Technical Vulnerability Prioritization.
- Establish operational governance frameworks, key performance metrics, and executive-level reporting.
- Provide leadership during major cyber incidents and crisis situations.
- Oversee effective operation of enterprise security technologies to meet business needs.
- Collaborate with Security Architecture & Technology teams to define operational requirements for new and enhanced technologies.
- Formulate workforce strategies including succession planning and capability development.
- Drive risk reduction through ongoing improvements, monitoring metrics, and service maturity initiatives.
- Build strong relationships with executive leadership and business stakeholders to support secure growth.
- Support compliance activities including customer assurance, audits, and regulatory adherence.
- Foster a culture emphasizing operational excellence, accountability, and teamwork.
Candidate Profile
- 8 to 10+ years in cybersecurity with substantial leadership experience in enterprise Security Operations, Incident Response, and Threat Management.
- Track record of building and enhancing Security Operations Centers within complex, high-availability environments.
- Skilled in devising and applying strategies, operational models, and roadmaps that bolster cyber resilience aligned with business goals.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Security Operations functions such as incident response, threat intelligence, hunting, vulnerability prioritization, monitoring, and operational resiliency.
- Familiar with key security technologies including SIEM, EDR/XDR, SOAR, vulnerability management, cloud security, identity management, and security analytics, with experience managing operational deployment in cooperation with architecture teams.
- Experience establishing governance frameworks, executive reporting structures, performance measurement, and continuous improvement programs.
- Understanding of industry standards such as ISO 27001, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, CIS Controls, SOC 2, and MITRE ATT&CK framework.
- Preferred certifications include CISSP, CISM, GIAC, or equivalent professional qualifications.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities, able to articulate cyber risks and operational status to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strategic thinker and effective leader with proven ability to influence organizational priorities and manage change.
- Strong skills in organizational management, financial oversight, and talent development.
- Adept at forging trusted partnerships to align security efforts with broader enterprise and technology strategies.
Compensation and Benefits
In compliance with British Columbia’s pay transparency legislation, the base salary for this position ranges from $180,000 to $220,000 CAD annually. This is part of a comprehensive total rewards package that supports work-life balance and employee well-being.
