Role Overview
The role of Director, Consumer Risk Decision Strategy, involves leading fraud and AML/CTF decision-making efforts across Paysafe’s global consumer product lines such as Skrill, NETELLER, and Paysafecard. This strategic leadership position demands technical expertise and the ability to oversee a specialist team, optimize production decision strategies, and leverage machine learning and rule sets to maintain fraud and loss within acceptable levels while minimizing unnecessary declines and customer inconvenience.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and manage consumer fraud and AML/CTF decision strategies from risk assessment to design, implementation, governance, and monitoring into production.
- Implement a model-driven approach to risk management, employing rule-based methods only when they add clear value.
- Collaborate with Data Science teams by defining risk challenges, setting expectations, and critically evaluating model results.
- Set operational thresholds for models, balancing fraud detection, financial losses, false positives, customer experience, and workload.
- Streamline risk decisioning by eliminating redundant or ineffective rules, aggregations, and metrics.
- Lead consumer risk strategy during onboarding of new portfolios to the core risk engine, ensuring optimal production outcomes and effective use of telemetry data.
- Work with Compliance to convert AML/CTF regulatory requirements into practical controls and prioritize needs transparently.
- Define risk system strategies supporting new global product launches.
- Manage, mentor, and develop a team of 6 to 12 specialized analysts, maintaining technical involvement when necessary.
- Set priorities, standards, development plans, and succession strategies to strengthen fraud and AML leadership within the team.
- Act as the main strategic contact for key risk platform suppliers such as Feedzai, ThreatMetrix, and Jumio, taking responsibility for supplier performance, roadmap alignment, contract renewals, and escalation management.
Candidate Profile
- Proven leadership experience in fraud decision strategy within a complex, high-volume consumer environment.
- Deep expertise in fraud prevention, account takeover, scams, and evolving digital threats.
- Experience managing production decision frameworks combining machine learning models with complementary rule sets.
- Strong understanding of model metrics and balancing fraud detection, loss, false positives, customer friction, and operational costs.
- Hands-on knowledge of design, testing, governance, monitoring, and elimination of decision strategies and rules.
- Proficiency in SQL, Python, business intelligence tools, and risk-engine interfaces, enabling direct analytical interrogation and review of logic.
- Solid understanding of AML/CTF monitoring and translating compliance needs into effective controls.
- Successful track record of leading and growing expert teams of six or more, fostering capability development and succession planning.
- Excellent governance, stakeholder engagement, and communication abilities, able to influence across Data Science, Compliance, Product, Technology, Operations, and regional Risk units.
- Experience managing important technology suppliers strategically.
Experience in fintech, digital payments, digital wallets, neobanks, marketplaces, or cryptocurrency sectors is highly desirable. Familiarity with gambling, gaming, crypto, LATAM payments, and platforms like Feedzai, ThreatMetrix, and/or Jumio is beneficial.
Benefits
- Flexible working hours to suit your personal schedule.
- Holiday flexibility with options to buy, sell, and carry over up to 5 days annually.
- Participation in social events.
- Complimentary breakfast, fresh fruit, and snacks available daily.
- Free £50 credit upon joining in Skrill and Neteller wallets for product testing.
- Involvement in six employee equality communities promoting diversity and collaboration.
- Four paid charity days annually to support community engagement.
