Role Overview

We are seeking a seasoned Analog Design Director to lead IC Design Engineering at our Bristol office, with oversight extending to partner locations in Europe and North America. Reporting to the VP of Design Engineering, the successful candidate will manage complex new product introduction (NPI) programs from concept through production release while guiding and developing a high-performing engineering team encompassing individual contributors, team leaders, and managers.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee IC Design Engineering across multiple locations, steering multifunctional NPI teams responsible for definition, design, layout, validation, product and test engineering, characterization, and reliability. Manage project timelines and budgets within ISO-compliant NPI processes (40% focus).
• Manage personnel directly and indirectly including mentoring leaders and engineers to foster engagement, retention, and succession planning aligned to organizational goals (25%).
• Contribute to technical roadmaps and strategy by collaborating with senior leadership, influencing budgetary planning, resource allocation, and organizational design (20%).
• Coordinate specification determination, resource allocation, and tooling needs, monitor team workload, and recommend adjustments such as headcount or restructuring to ensure efficiency (10%).
• Ensure compliance with corporate and business unit standards including ISO and environmental health and safety requirements, promoting alignment of team goals with broader organizational vision (5%).

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a closely related field.
• Over 10 years of experience in semiconductor engineering with substantial exposure to engineering management and project leadership roles.
• Track record of successfully leading products from inception to commercial production with measurable market success and profitability.
• Expertise in developing product families to optimize market reach with efficient design investment.
• Strong knowledge and experience related to signal integrity in relevant markets.
• Effective collaborator and influencer with excellent team-building skills and ability to lead cross-functional initiatives.
• Clear and confident communicator able to engage both technical and business stakeholders.

Desired Qualifications

• Prior experience in optical communications IC design, particularly with laser drivers, TIAs, or integrated transceiver products.
• Understanding of FTTH and datacentre interconnect market dynamics and customer expectations.
• Experience managing distributed engineering teams across multiple countries and time zones.
• Proven capability to develop and execute succession planning frameworks within engineering departments.
• Experience in publicly traded, multinational technology corporations.
