About the Role
The Digital Platform Engineer is instrumental in architecting, constructing, and supporting the cloud-based system powering Sky New Zealand's media streaming services. This platform delivers experiences for hundreds of thousands of users across applications like Sky Box, Sky Pod, Sky Go, Neon, and ThreeNow. The position emphasizes creating robust, scalable Java applications alongside cloud solutions that ensure optimal performance, reliability, and security, enabling uninterrupted streaming and innovative feature sets.
Primary Responsibilities
- Collaborate with product teams to convert roadmap objectives into solid technical deliverables, building a flexible, secure, scalable platform for rapid and safe innovation.
- Develop and maintain high-throughput, event-driven services mainly developed in Java, supporting APIs that integrate internal and external platforms.
- Design, implement, and uphold AWS cloud infrastructure components that provide scalability, robustness, and security.
- Work closely with development groups to enhance platform performance, introduce monitoring tools, and diagnose issues to uphold high availability.
- Contribute to the technical architecture of the Sky Digital Platform ensuring it meets scalability, fault tolerance, and security benchmarks.
- Engage cross-functionally with stakeholders including product managers, UX/UI designers, architects, analysts, data experts, and marketing teams to deliver smooth digital experiences across Sky’s offerings.
What You Will Bring
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities to determine root causes and resolve complex technical challenges.
- Thorough understanding and application experience of cloud computing principles, particularly AWS infrastructure.
- Strong communication skills to articulate complex technical information and collaborate across various teams effectively.
- Proficient with Java programming including the Spring Framework, NoSQL databases, AWS services, CI/CD workflows, configuration management, and Git for building modular, scalable applications.
- Experienced in developing and exposing modern HTTP-based JSON APIs.
- Well-versed in networking fundamentals and protocols critical for platform network infrastructure design and configuration.
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
