Job description

About the Company

AECOM is a leading global infrastructure consulting firm committed to creating a better world through innovative planning, design, engineering, and program management services. With over 50,000 professionals worldwide, AECOM delivers impactful projects that support thriving communities and sustainable legacies.

Role Overview

We are expanding our Defence portfolio and seek an experienced Digital Engineering Lead to contribute to a large, complex, long-duration Defence program. This role requires strong BIM governance skills, a collaborative approach, and the ability to work autonomously across multidisciplinary project teams. The position is based anywhere in Australia, with regular travel to Adelaide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide independent oversight and governance of BIM and digital engineering processes for a prominent Defence program, including audit of models, validation of data, and coordination of multi-discipline model integration to maintain quality and adherence to project standards.
  • Serve as a trusted expert in digital engineering, guiding project teams, design managers, and clients on best practices, technical solutions, and efficient use of tools such as Autodesk ACC (Forma), Revit, Revizto, ProjectWise, and SharePoint.
  • Oversee comprehensive digital information management from initial planning and design phases through delivery and operational handover, ensuring data is well-structured, accessible, and facilitates informed decision-making.
  • Collaborate intensively with project delivery, design management, and program management teams to incorporate digital engineering workflows into overall project governance without occupying a traditional project delivery role.
  • Lead and mentor a small group of Digital Engineering and Digital Systems specialists, coordinating their workload, fostering professional development, and guaranteeing consistent achievement of project milestones and client expectations.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Extensive experience (ideally 15+ years) in Digital Engineering, BIM, or infrastructure projects, with preference for candidates who have worked on large, complex, or Defence-related programs.
  • Proficiency with digital design and information management platforms such as Autodesk ACC, Revit, Revizto, Navisworks, ProjectWise, and/or 12D Synergy.
  • Strong knowledge of BIM workflows and information management frameworks, with ISO 19650 certification or understanding highly valued.
  • Relevant educational background in Digital Engineering, Civil, Structural or Services Engineering, Architecture, or related fields; significant hands-on project delivery experience also highly regarded.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, capable of engaging with technical personnel, project leaders, and clients; willingness to travel monthly to Adelaide.
  • Australian citizenship is preferred due to the nature of projects; holding current defence clearance is advantageous.

Additional Information and Benefits

  • Flexible working arrangements including alternative start and finish times, job-sharing, and hybrid work options.
  • Opportunity to purchase up to six additional weeks of annual leave per year.
  • Option to swap public holidays for others that better suit personal preferences.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and career growth through lunch-and-learns, professional development courses, financial assistance for studies, five days of paid study leave, and global career opportunities.
  • New employees must attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding session at an AECOM office as a condition of employment.
  • AECOM honors the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the lands in Australia, actively engages with First Nations peoples, and promotes reconciliation through meaningful actions.
