Position Overview
The Die Setter is tasked with the installation, alignment, and secure attachment of dies on production machines. This role includes setting up pressroom machinery such as mechanical presses, progressive dies, blank dies, line dies, transfer dies, feeders, and un-coilers. The Die Setter ensures that all tooling setups meet production timelines, quality benchmarks, and safety guidelines. Collaboration with machine operators, maintenance staff, and production supervisors is essential to reduce equipment downtime and enhance performance.
Key Duties
- Mount dies, ensuring that the bolster and die surfaces are clean and correctly aligned.
- Calculate and modify press shut height and cushion pin lengths, take lead readings, and confirm the accuracy of the first product output.
- Load steel coils onto uncoiling devices, adjust feeders, thread coils into the feeder heads, and verify steel alignment with dies.
- Adjust knock-outs, catchers, part ejectors, and scrap removal systems as needed.
- Make all required die modifications.
- Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and use hand tools and precision measuring instruments to complete job duties.
- Prepare dies and equipment in advance for upcoming setups.
- Maintain cleanliness and proper housekeeping throughout the work area.
- Conform to all applicable company policies, procedures, and safety instructions.
- Perform other assigned tasks as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED is mandatory.
- At least two years of experience as a die setter or a related position within manufacturing, preferably in the automotive industry.
- Familiarity with stamping presses and associated production equipment.
- Hands-on experience with mechanical press setup, die setting, and basic press maintenance tasks.
- Comprehensive understanding of the press operation from feeder and uncoiling equipment to producing the first part.
- Ability to operate all necessary equipment safely.
