Role Overview

The Die Setter position involves installing, adjusting, and securing dies on manufacturing machinery. This includes configuring pressroom tools such as mechanical presses, progressive dies, blank dies, line dies, transfer dies, feeders, and uncoilers. Responsibilities focus on ensuring tooling setups meet production timelines and quality and safety criteria. The role demands collaboration with operators, maintenance teams, and supervisors to reduce downtime and maintain equipment efficacy.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Install dies with attention to cleanliness and precise alignment of bolster and die.
  • Measure and modify press shut height, cushion pin length, perform lead readings, and validate initial output accuracy.
  • Set up feeders by loading coil materials onto uncoilers, threading coils correctly, and aligning steel with dies.
  • Adjust knock-outs, part ejectors, catchers, and scrap removal mechanisms appropriately.
  • Perform necessary die modifications to meet operational requirements.
  • Operate material handling equipment such as lift trucks and overhead cranes, and utilize hand tools and measurement devices as needed.
  • Prepare dies and machinery in advance for upcoming setups.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment consistently.
  • Observe all company policies, safety protocols, and procedural instructions strictly.
  • Comply with all position-specific procedural requirements.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED mandatory.
  • Minimum two years’ experience as a die setter or in a related manufacturing role, ideally in automotive sector.
  • Familiarity with stamping presses and similar production machines.
  • Experience with mechanical press setup, die setting, and basic equipment maintenance.
  • Comprehensive practical knowledge of press operations, including feeder and uncoiling functions through to initial output checks.
  • Capability to operate all required equipment safely and efficiently.
