This is an exciting opportunity to join Smartsheet as a Developer Community Manager based in Bengaluru, India.
Role Summary
You will be responsible for establishing and nurturing Smartsheet's developer community from inception. Your role includes building the community's foundation, shaping its culture, and creating engagement programs that transform individual developers into a connected and active community. Directly reporting to the Director of Community, you will collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Customer Success teams to ensure the developer perspective is central to product development.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the community’s leading representative by actively responding to queries and discussions across multiple platforms.
- Maintain a safe and inclusive community environment by moderating channels, enforcing guidelines, and professionally managing any escalations.
- Boost community participation by initiating conversations, highlighting resources, and sustaining lively discussions.
- Organize regular office hours and Ask Me Anything (AMA) sessions with internal stakeholders to foster relationships and uncover developer needs.
- Support emerging community contributors and integrate them into broader advocacy initiatives.
- Oversee content planning by managing calendars, creating, and scheduling engaging material featuring internal guests.
- Design and run developer contests, prompts, and hackathons to encourage involvement and acknowledge technical proficiency.
- Introduce gamification elements and badges to recognize and reward community members.
- Create or assist in generating technical documentation such as tutorials, guides, and use cases to facilitate easier community onboarding and skill enhancement.
- Gather community feedback, identify pain points, and translate them into actionable product insights.
- Manage triage of bug reports and roadmap feature requests, ensuring timely communication and closure with contributors.
- Provide regular reports on community health metrics including engagement rates, response times, and overall sentiment.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of five years’ experience in developer relations or community management, with proven success in launching and scaling communities from the ground up.
- Demonstrable track record of driving early-stage community engagement and growing membership.
- Experience in setting up governance policies, moderating, and managing content programs on platforms like Slack, Discourse, or Reddit.
- A degree in Computer Science, comparable software engineering experience, or background in open-source development.
- Familiarity with workflow management or automation platforms; previous Smartsheet experience is advantageous but not required.
- Exceptional written communication skills, capable of crafting technical yet approachable responses suitable for all user levels.
- Proven competence in managing content calendars balancing ongoing educational material with current challenges and events.
- Strong empathy towards developers, celebrating successes publicly and addressing sensitive feedback with discretion.
- Experience collaborating effectively across functions and aligning teams toward shared goals.
- Ability to analyze community data to inform program enhancements consistently.
