Design Engineer

Overview

CREGG is seeking an experienced Design Engineer to support a prominent Medical Device Company located in Limerick. The role focuses on creating jigs, fixtures, gauges, and tooling that facilitate efficient and high-quality production processes.

Responsibilities

• Develop and design jigs, fixtures, gauges, and production tooling using 2D/3D parametric CAD software.
• Convert engineering needs into detailed CAD models, assemblies, and manufacturing-ready drawings.
• Collaborate with engineering, process operations, new product development, manufacturing, and quality teams to address design and manufacturing challenges.
• Utilize GD&T standards, perform tolerance analysis, and apply drawing specifications to create robust designs.
• Assess designs to identify issues and propose practical enhancements.
• Support Engineering Change Requests and activities related to design validation.
• Work with external suppliers along with internal teams to deliver tooling projects.
• Incorporate rapid prototyping, including 3D printing and CNC machining, to validate design concepts.
• Present design recommendations and effectively communicate technical information to stakeholders.

Candidate Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years relevant design/engineering experience.
• Proficiency with CAD/PDM systems such as Creo, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalents.
• Hands-on experience designing tooling, jigs, fixtures, or gauges, preferably within regulated manufacturing sectors.
• Strong knowledge of GD&T, ASME Y14.5 standards, Design for Manufacturing (DFM), and manufacturing processes like machining and molding.
• Good understanding of material properties and characteristics.
• Skilled at interpreting and generating detailed engineering drawings.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork abilities.
• Capability to handle multiple projects and coordinate across departments.
• Attention to detail combined with a practical, hands-on design approach.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or equivalent in a related discipline.
• Experience with advanced CAD techniques, such as Top-Down Design, Master Models, Multi-Body, or Sheet Metal design.
• Background in electrical drawing or design.
• Experience in medical device manufacturing environments.
• Familiarity with CE marking and European safety and environmental regulations.
