Design Engineer – Mechanical & Sheet Metal Design

Overview

CK INSTO Pvt Ltd seeks an experienced and motivated Design Engineer specialized in mechanical and sheet metal design to join their engineering department at Itola, near POR, Vadodara, Gujarat, India. This full-time role involves designing, developing, and refining mechanical and electrical testing equipment, sheet metal enclosures, machine frameworks, and related mechanical elements.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and develop mechanical components, assemblies and machine structures using SolidWorks 3D modeling and 2D manufacturing drawings.
• Design tailored mechanical and electrical testing devices aligning with client needs.
• Draft detailed part, assembly, and fabrication drawings, choosing appropriate materials, thickness, fasteners, and mechanical components.
• Design sheet metal enclosures, control panels, machine covers, doors, brackets, and equipment frames with consideration for manufacturing feasibility, cost efficiency, and assembly requirements.
• Use SolidWorks sheet metal tools to develop flat patterns, unfolding drawings, and laser cutting instructions for fabrication processes such as bending, welding, drilling, and tapping.
• Coordinate with production, fabrication, quality, and purchasing teams to ensure design accuracy and effective manufacturing flow.
• Prepare, verify, and dispatch laser cutting drawings and DXF files to external vendors, ensuring all files and documents are free from errors and properly detailed.
• Manage vendor relations concerning material specifications, tolerances, schedules, costing, and delivery of laser-cut components.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation including 2D/3D drawings, BOMs, cutting lists, revision histories, and ensure controlled release of approved engineering materials.
• Support manufacturing teams with technical expertise to resolve assembly issues and minimize rework or material waste.
• Conduct technical analysis, engineering calculations, and implement corrective design changes to improve product reliability and manufacturability.
• Oversee design projects from concept to final assembly, collaborating with management to meet deadlines.
• Advocate for continuous improvements in design standardization, production efficiency, and fabrication practices while staying current with SolidWorks advancements and industry trends.

Qualifications and Skills

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 2 to 5 years of experience in mechanical design and product development, especially in sheet metal fabrication and laser cutting documentation.
• Experience interacting with machine builders or electrical panel manufacturers considered advantageous.
• High proficiency with SolidWorks 3D modeling and 2D drafting, including sheet metal flat pattern generation.
• Ability to generate precise DXF files for CNC laser cutting and comprehensive manufacturing drawings.
• Understanding of sheet metal processes including bending, welding, drilling, and tapping.
• Familiarity with materials, thickness tolerances, bend radii, allowances, and supplier coordination.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD, PDF drawing creation, and Microsoft Excel for documentation support.
• Excellent analytical problem-solving skills, strong attention to detail, and effective communication capabilities.
• Capable of working independently and collaboratively across multiple departments with a focus on meeting deadlines and high-quality output.

Performance Indicators

Success in this role is measured by accuracy and quality of SolidWorks modeling and manufacturing drawings, punctual release of design documents, error-free laser cutting files, minimized rework and material inefficiencies, and effective vendor and interdepartmental collaboration.

Compensation

The monthly salary range offered is between INR 20,000 and 30,000.
