About the Role

The Derrickman, also known as Derrick Operator, is tasked with supporting the Driller by managing the drill string at the racking board during drilling and tripping processes. This role also involves assisting the Assistant Driller as necessary. The Derrickman handles tubular goods in the derrick and operates and maintains the drilling fluids pumping system.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Carry out various derrick and mast tasks such as drilling string measurement and equipment lubrication.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of the derrick, mast, and related equipment including the monkey board, casing board, hoses, and cables under supervision.
  • Promptly report any defects or hazardous conditions found in the derrick or mast to the Driller.
  • Perform rig crew duties as assigned and within capability limits.
  • Work efficiently on the rig floor, monkey board, and stabbing board.
  • Inspect, maintain, and operate the mud pump and understand mud tank operations.
  • Prepare and manage the monkey board during rig moves.
  • Be adept at rigging up and down the stabbing board and familiar with slinging and rigging procedures.
  • Have a solid understanding of rig equipment and common health, safety, and environmental (HSE) practices.
  • Ensure safety belts and safety systems are regularly maintained and operational.
  • Operate the Man-lift (Mobile Elevated Work Platform) subject to relevant training and certification.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Secondary school education or equivalent technical experience in a similar role.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience in derrickman responsibilities.
  • Technical abilities including chemical handling management, awareness of banksman and slinger roles, and familiarity with rig components and drilling operations.

Safety Requirements

  • Adherence to company safety policies at all times and assume personal responsibility for maintaining safe working conditions.
  • Report potential hazards and unsafe conditions immediately, especially while working at height in the mast.
  • Participate actively in safety meetings, drills, and training programs.
  • Comply with the Group Safety Policy and take precautions to protect personal and coworkers' health and safety according to workplace safety regulations.
  • Utilize safety observation systems such as STOP and Permit-to-Work (PTW) to manage hazards related to health, equipment, and environment.
  • Secure and report incidents promptly to the senior safety representative to allow for proper investigation.
  • Conduct planned safety inspections as required and ensure all activities follow Permit-to-Work procedures and safety protocols on-site.
