Assistant Driller

About the Role

At H&P, we consider our workforce to be our greatest asset. The Assistant Driller is tasked with supporting the Driller by executing assigned duties promptly and effectively. This role includes stepping in for the Driller during drilling or tripping activities and overseeing the drilling crew, all while adhering to company directives and H&P's quality and safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and participate in maintaining orderliness, cleanliness, and proper housekeeping at the rig site.
• Maintain and manage drilling tools and equipment.
• Lead and assist the drilling crew in equipment preparations.
• Coordinate and supervise the loading of rig equipment before relocations, following instructions from the Tool Pusher and Driller.
• Ensure proper storage of drilling equipment.
• Serve as a substitute for the Derrickman upon the Driller's request.
• Inspect the derrick/mast and related equipment, document findings, and arrange for defect resolution upon approval by the Tool Pusher.
• Supervise maintenance of all sheaves in the derrick/mast.
• Verify that the drill string remains in optimal condition.
• Manage rig floor operations, especially when handling drilling equipment during pick-up or laydown activities.
• Replace the Driller during breaks when pulling out, running into casing, or drilling non-productive zones.
• Apply client-specific kick control procedures under the Driller's guidance.
• Execute any additional tasks assigned by the Driller or Tool Pusher within area of expertise.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies

• At least five years of supervisory experience in drilling operations.
• Certifications including IWCF Well Control or equivalent (e.g., Wellsharp) and Banksman/Slinger.
• Extensive expertise and knowledge in drilling operations.
• Capability to train, mentor, and develop multinational teams effectively.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Dynamic and motivated leadership skills, with the ability to influence culture and enhance team performance.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills paired with excellent interpersonal aptitude.
• Self-driven with the capacity to work independently or collaboratively within a team environment.
