About GitLab

GitLab serves as an intelligent orchestration platform designed for DevSecOps, empowering organizations to boost developer productivity, improve operational workflows, enhance security and compliance, and accelerate digital transformation efforts. Trusted globally by over 50 million users and half of the Fortune 100 companies, GitLab enables faster and more secure software delivery.

Role Overview

The Demo Architect supports GitLab’s teams and customers by accelerating access to hands-on experiences with the platform while minimizing friction. This role involves building and refining tools, apps, and infrastructure that facilitate demos, workshops, trials, and testing environments utilized by field teams internally. Reporting to the Senior Director of the Solutions Architecture Center of Excellence, the position blends software engineering, infrastructure proficiency, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to craft practical and scalable solutions aligned with sales processes.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain systems, applications, and workflows that enhance demo, workshop, trial, and internal environment experiences.
  • Expand the Demo Architect Portal to bolster automation, empower self-service capabilities, and increase scalability for field teams and partners.
  • Provision and support infrastructure that enables engaging hands-on interactions across GitLab.com, demo instances, and internal testing setups.
  • Work closely with Solutions Architects, Account Executives, Customer Success, Marketing, Revenue Operations, UX, and Engineering to gather requirements and deliver effective technical solutions.
  • Document and automate go-to-market processes to streamline demos, workshops, and trial activities by eliminating inefficiencies.
  • Create technical workshop resources and enablement materials to assist pre-sales and technical selling efforts.
  • Offer consultation on sales engagements requiring custom or specialized demo setups.
  • Enhance presenter experiences by minimizing manual preparations and simplifying demo workflows.
  • Support teams relying on demo or test infrastructures, ensuring reliability and availability.
  • Troubleshoot urgent issues affecting demo/workshop environments and keep stakeholders informed of progress.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience designing software, tools, or systems that serve technical or business stakeholders.
  • Capability to deliver dependable production-grade software with focus on maintainability and thorough documentation.
  • Comfortable navigating both application development and infrastructure provisioning, automation, and service orchestration.
  • Knowledge of monitoring and observability tools to efficiently diagnose and resolve operational issues.
  • Effective communicator and collaborator with both technical and non-technical stakeholders across multiple departments.
  • Understanding of designing solutions with a focus on user usability and repeatability, considering end users such as sellers and Solutions Architects.
  • Ability to work autonomously within a remote, asynchronous team environment, with occasional travel for team gatherings.
  • Experience or strong interest in technical demos, workshops, trial environments, and pre-sales enablement from backgrounds like software engineering, site reliability, systems engineering, or solutions architecture.

Team Information

The Demo Architect team is a highly collaborative and globally distributed group responsible for tools and infrastructure that underpin demo, workshop, and trial experiences field-wide. Operating asynchronously, the team focuses on increasing automation, facilitating self-service, supporting partners, and maintaining reliable internal environments.

Employee Support and Benefits

  • Comprehensive benefits promoting health, financial security, and overall well-being
  • Flexible paid time off policies
  • Access to team member resource groups
  • Equity participation and stock purchase opportunities
  • Funds allocated for professional growth and development
  • Parental leave provisions
