About the Role

Advance your culinary journey within a kitchen dedicated to excellence, creativity, and outstanding service. The Helier by Oceania is a distinguished retirement living community located in the heart of St Heliers, blending beautiful surroundings with exceptional amenities and personalized care to provide a premier experience for residents.

We are seeking a committed full-time Demi Chef to strengthen our kitchen team and support the delivery of an exceptional dining experience aligned with The Helier's reputation for quality and care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook dishes adhering closely to recipes, menu specifications, and presentation standards.
  • Assist in daily meal service, including special functions, events, and adapting to menu changes.
  • Maintain pride in the appearance and taste of every dish served.
  • Collaborate closely with the Executive Chef, Sous Chef, and kitchen staff to receive guidance and enhance culinary skills.
  • Bring creativity and innovative ideas to the kitchen environment.
  • Manage ingredient inventory to ensure availability of quality stock while reducing waste.
  • Uphold strict food safety, hygiene, and cleanliness in compliance with the Food Control Plan.
  • Take responsibility for assigned kitchen sections and complete duties thoroughly.
  • Work cooperatively as part of a team to ensure seamless service and an outstanding dining experience for residents.

Candidate Profile

  • Possess culinary education, apprenticeship training, or equivalent hands-on kitchen experience.
  • Exhibit genuine enthusiasm for creating aesthetically pleasing and delicious food.
  • Demonstrate understanding of food safety and proper handling practices.
  • Show strong organizational skills with effective time management.
  • Approach work with positivity, initiative, and a willingness to learn.
  • Confidently seek feedback and take accountability for performance.
  • Embody a team-oriented attitude, ready to assist colleagues and adapt as needed.
  • Maintain consistently high standards even during peak service periods.
  • Flexible availability to work on rostered shifts.
  • Holding relevant Safe Food practice qualifications such as NZQA 167,168,20666, or 27955 is advantageous.
