Deli Clerk

Role Overview

As a Deli Clerk, your main focus is on preparing fresh deli foods and fostering a pleasant shopping experience for customers. Your tasks include assisting customers in selecting deli meats, cheeses, hot foods, and other ready-to-eat items while ensuring efficient and friendly service. Your responsibilities extend from slicing meats to preparing grab-and-go offerings, helping to encourage repeat business.

Daily Duties

You will maintain department organization by keeping it well-stocked, clean, and appealing throughout your shift. Duties include preparing hot and cold items, arranging displays neatly, and monitoring product freshness and temperature. You will be involved in restocking, processing orders, and operating equipment, making this an active job suited to those who thrive in a busy, fast-moving environment.

Key Qualifications and Skills

• Clear communication skills to interact with customers in person or over the phone
• Experience in slicing, assembling, and portioning deli products
• Understanding of deli items such as meats, cheeses, and hot case products
• High level of accuracy in portioning, labeling, and pricing
• Strong organizational and time management capabilities to juggle multiple tasks
• Ability to maintain appealing and clean merchandising displays
• Cash handling proficiency and transaction processing (subject to location-specific practices)
• Adherence to food safety, sanitation, and company protocols
• Adaptability to a fast-paced environment with fluctuating customer flow
• Physical stamina to stand for long periods, lift items up to 35lbs, and work in variable temperatures

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old
• Ability to safely use slicers and food preparation machinery after training
• Basic math skills necessary for weighing products, portioning, and handling transactions
• Availability to work during early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
• Previous experience in food service or customer service preferred
