Data Steward

Role Overview

The Data Steward is responsible for guaranteeing that data within assigned business domains is clearly defined, reliable, well-documented, and suitable for organizational use. This role involves partnering closely with the Data Governance Program Manager, data owners, business units, and data teams to establish governance standards, enhance data quality, maintain consistent business definitions, and facilitate the adoption of cataloguing, metadata, and data quality protocols.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary operational liaison for data governance within designated data domains and assist the Data Governance Program Manager in executing governance frameworks.
• Develop, sustain, and coordinate business definitions, data ownership responsibilities, data quality policies, and data standards alongside data owners and domain specialists.
• Track and analyze data quality metrics, detect data issues, lead root cause investigations, and support corrective measures with cross-functional teams.
• Keep metadata records, data catalog entries, data dictionaries, and lineage details up to date for assigned domains.
• Assist with data classification, access control, and privacy impact assessments by sharing domain expertise and contextual data insights.
• Contribute to data governance meetings by preparing summaries of issues, quality reports, recommended standards, and decision support materials.
• Advocate for data awareness and data literacy by educating business stakeholders on standards, definitions, and governance procedures.
• Collaborate with business intelligence, analytics, data engineering, and operational teams to ensure consistent use of definitions and dependability of data sources in data products.

Candidate Profile

• At least 3 years of professional experience working with business data, reporting, master data management, or analytics.
• Proven expertise in data quality management, defining data standards, formulating business rules, or resolving data-related issues.
• Strong comprehension of data governance principles, data quality frameworks, and accountability models.
• Capability to specify business rules, data definitions, and governance checks in partnership with domain experts.
• Familiarity with reporting tools, analytics processes, master data governance, or source system operations.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; additional language skills are advantageous.
