Data Scientist - Transparency & Observability in Trust and Safety

Role Overview

Join TikTok's Trust & Safety team dedicated to maintaining a safe and reliable platform for billions globally. This role is part of the Transparency & Observability Data Science team, where you'll contribute to building data-driven metrics and analytical tools that enhance understanding of enforcement system performance, support decision-making, and ensure transparency.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and maintain metrics that assess Trust & Safety enforcement across various products and content categories.
• Develop comprehensive dashboards and monitoring tools offering actionable insights into platform safety.
• Implement automated anomaly detection and alert mechanisms to preemptively identify data and operational issues.
• Ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and dependability of Trust & Safety-related data.
• Diagnose and resolve data-related problems, enhancing data quality processes through collaboration with engineering teams to strengthen governance.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Policy, Operations, and Data teams to establish robust measurement frameworks.
• Contribute to standardized and scalable approaches for transparency reporting and system observability.
• Investigate AI-driven approaches to monitor model performance and evaluate their influence on platform safety.
• Translate complex datasets into clear insights to support strategic business decisions.
• Detect emerging risks and opportunities through rigorous data analysis.
• Shape the long-term strategy for Trust & Safety observability and metrics development.

Candidate Qualifications

• At least 5 years of experience in Data Science, Data Analytics, Data Engineering, or related quantitative disciplines.
• Strong proficiency in SQL and handling large-scale data platforms such as Hive and Spark.
• Advanced skills in Python or R programming languages.
• Proven experience in designing, implementing, and managing data quality monitoring and observability solutions.
• Capability to create insightful metrics and develop dashboards and reporting tools.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving aptitude combined with clear communication of technical concepts.
• A bachelor's degree or higher qualification in fields such as Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or Economics.

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Background in Trust & Safety, content moderation, risk management, or regulatory compliance reporting.
• Experience developing comprehensive end-to-end monitoring or observability platforms.
• Knowledge of regulatory frameworks like the Digital Services Act (DSA) and transparency reporting requirements.
• Expertise in anomaly detection techniques, causal inference, experimentation, and time-series analysis.
• Leadership in driving large-scale data quality initiatives.
• Proven ability to work effectively with global, cross-functional teams.
• Strong commitment to leveraging data for enhancing online safety.
