Data Scientist - Logistics

About the Role

Join Snoonu as a Data Scientist specializing in logistics, based in Doha, Qatar. This role focuses on developing sophisticated forecasting and optimization solutions to enhance logistics efficiency, including ETA prediction, preparation times, and demand forecasting.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead development and research on advanced time series forecasting models to optimize logistics operations.
• Create and implement optimization algorithms to improve network efficiency, route planning, and resource allocation.
• Design rigorous experiments to validate and benchmark models under diverse real-world conditions.
• Deploy, fine-tune, and monitor machine learning models in production, ensuring continuous performance through retraining pipelines.
• Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams including ML engineers, backend engineers, researchers, and product engineers to tackle operational challenges using data-driven methods.
• Conduct A/B testing and other experimental methods to assess model impacts and drive improvements across logistics KPIs.
• Translate complex analytical insights into actionable recommendations for senior leadership and stakeholders.
• Provide mentoring and technical leadership in data science best practices, modeling techniques, experimentation, and coding standards.
• Stay current with cutting-edge AI, ML, and operations research techniques to integrate innovative solutions into logistics.

Desired Qualifications & Experience

• Master’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or related fields; a PhD is a plus.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in data science or related fields focusing on time series forecasting and optimization.
• Proficient with forecasting methods such as ARIMA, Prophet, LightGBM, TFT, DeepAR, N-BEATS, and regression/classification models.
• Experienced with optimization methodologies including linear programming, mixed-integer programming, heuristics, and tools like OR-Tools and PuLP.
• Strong Python programming skills with familiarity in libraries like Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, Optuna, LightGBM, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
• Hands-on experience deploying ML models at scale with capabilities in monitoring and retraining.
• Competent in designing and conducting A/B tests and other experimentation techniques.
• Skilled in handling large datasets and SQL databases such as BigQuery and Redash.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS (ECS, S3, Lambda, Step Functions), GCP (BigQuery, VertexAI), and Databricks for ML development and deployment.
• Experience in delivery and logistics industry challenges and optimizations is advantageous.
