Job description
About Micron Technology
Micron Technology is a pioneering leader in advanced memory and storage solutions, focused on transforming how information enriches lives worldwide. The company drives innovation that powers virtual reality, neural network advancements, and more, all while emphasizing integrity, sustainability, and community commitment.
Role Overview
As a Data Scientist at Micron, you will leverage expertise from mathematics, statistics, semiconductor physics, materials science, and IT to identify data patterns and develop predictive models and actionable insights. Collaboration with data scientists, engineers, and UX teams is fundamental to define project goals and enhance existing tools. The role involves creating software and algorithms that efficiently cleanse, integrate, and analyze extensive datasets from varied sources, with ample opportunities for innovative exploratory projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop computer vision solutions for object recognition, image segmentation, anomaly detection, and automated inspection, working with RGB-D cameras and inspection systems to measure volume/density and verify components.
- Build and deploy deep learning models such as CNNs, LSTMs, and transformer architectures for image classification, detecting anomalies in time-series data, and multimodal sentiment analysis, utilizing TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Keras frameworks.
- Implement cutting-edge AI methods like few-shot learning, generative AI, and multimodal fusion combining text, images, and time-series data to address manufacturing and environmental monitoring issues.
- Extract, clean, and analyze large datasets from SQL databases, cloud infrastructures like AWS and GCP, and sensor networks, applying thorough outlier detection and handling missing data effectively.
- Lead collaborations across engineering, operations, and quality teams; manage projects; document technical processes; and mentor engineers in data science practices and tools including Python, Spotfire, and Power Automate.
- Oversee deployment of models using MLOps processes including MLflow, Apache Airflow; monitor models, detect data drift, maintain version control, and develop automated tests.
- Contribute to innovation via patents, publications, and presentations at premier AI and neural network conferences, translating academic research into practical industrial solutions.
- Communicate complex technical information and project results clearly to both technical colleagues and non-specialist stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or Artificial Intelligence with 2-3 years of practical experience deploying scalable AI applications in manufacturing, semiconductor, or electronic sectors.
- Alternatively, Master’s or Ph.D. in the same fields with at least 1 year of relevant hands-on experience.
Technical Expertise
- 1-2 years designing and implementing industrial computer vision applications (object detection, image segmentation, automated inspections) with OpenCV, YOLO, and RGB-D cameras.
- Minimum 1 year experience developing deep learning models (CNNs, LSTMs, transformers) using TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Keras, including generative AI techniques.
- Proficiency in handling multimodal datasets involving text, images, and time-series for analyses like sentiment evaluation and data fusion.
- Strong programming skills in Python; at least 2 years experience with SQL, Java, C++, and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP); familiarity with distributed computing tools such as Spark and Hadoop.
- Experience in MLOps tools and workflows including MLflow, Apache Airflow, Docker, and Git for deploying and maintaining models.
- At least 1 year using visualization and reporting tools such as Dash, Plotly, Spotfire, and PowerBI; skilled in technical writing and training documentation.
Soft Skills
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving ability with a research-focused, data-driven approach for at least two years.
- Strong communication and collaboration capabilities, experienced in managing cross-functional teams and conducting training sessions.
- Proven capacity to work autonomously, juggle multiple priorities, and deliver high-quality work in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
- Consistent dedication to quality, continuous improvement, and flexibility within manufacturing contexts.
Preferred Experience
- Background in semiconductor or electronics manufacturing industries (e.g., Intel, STMicroelectronics).
- Hands-on work integrating computer vision or natural language processing systems into production.
- Experience with large language models, multimodal sentiment analysis, or generative AI.
- Professional experience conducting training or teaching in data science or AI disciplines.
